Do they disband and go their separate ways?
Do they latch on to a new pseudo-leader? Who?
Do they see the light and agree with Democrats on issues?
Do they commit mass suicide by not wearing masks this winter?
Do they start a civil war on their own?
What will become of them?

As you see.... we back each other up and even if a typo, you should have let it slip.

(53,342 posts)To be brief:
1) If trump slinks away, #MAGAts will slowly lose their passion for hatred. We'll still have the white supremacist element regardless
2) If trump stays in the limelight, so, too, will #MAGAt mentality. Although I imagine some % of it will die off over the next few years (if he really does intend on running again in 2024)
As an aside to #2 above, if trump keeps that up, I foresee the GOP, itself, fracturing into two parties in the very near future. It's not sustainable as the bloc it is now

(62,269 posts)He is a nasty, nasty, man, he was never anything more, the media normalized him, they let him be relevant, they watched his morning "briefings" in 2016 like a reality show star, giving him thousands upon thousands of hours of full attention. The media is done. The entire environment he created is insanity. They are done with him.

(1,748 posts)Theyre in essence the same blend of conservative ideologues, the religious right, and neo-fascist racist and
bigots.
Theyve been around for some 50 years and will continue to be a significant voting bloc in the GOP.
Trump was merely a symptom of the disease that is conservatism.
Trump will soon be gone but the fear, ignorance, bigotry, racism, and hate that supported Trump, that makes up most of the GOP, is alive and well.

(14,559 posts)The most extreme Trump supporters are hard core racists, anti government militia (an oxymoron) or political opportunists (yeah, that's you Mitch) devoid of patriotism or morality. These people have always been around and always will be, available to the next would be dictator who comes along. Starve them for the ignition source and they'll go dormant.
The majority of Trump voters are low information political amateurs that only become energized when a shiny squirrel runs by with a good bumper sticker slogan. They have also been around forever and will always be. No particular ideology but what passes for 'common sense' which is really uncommon in fact.
The second bunch is the real problem because they take part with no particular knowledge of what they are taking part in and susceptible to over simplified policies for terribly complicated issues. They will thwart the best intentions of serious political intent.

(15,533 posts)I believe you summed it up nicely. Because of their willful ignorance they cannot and will not educate themselves more on the issues. Everything has to be boiled down to a very simple-minded concept that they then latch onto. These people have always been with us. They're not suddenly going to decide to become more educated but I do believe a lot of them will just slink back into their own small worlds.

(707 posts)We have to face the reality that the days of McCain and Romney republicans are gone. Racism, fascist behaviors and reality denying idiocy are the standard now. They aren't going away. Our top priority should be uniting liberals and moderates against them.

(7,133 posts)on what Fox News decides to do about Trump. Are they going to continue giving him a platform even after he's out of office or move on to someone else? If the latter, I suspect a lot of Trump cultists will forget the Orange Loser and switch interest to whatever rising Republican star Fox chooses to promote.
Could get real interesting, especially if the Trump TV network gets off the ground and Murdoch decides to go to war.

(5,499 posts)I think of Trump more as a fad than a movement. Most fads fade away rather quickly. I think Trump will try to keep it going. It's going to be hard for him to sustain the energy necessary without having the office of the presidency behind him.
I do think he'll try to start a TV channel. I think he'll be able to persuade some of the more right-winged personalities to join. And if he can get it off the ground it will probably initially do ok enough to garner some attention. Again, it's part of the fad.
And I think in 2024 they will try to run as a third party. If Trump is healthy enough, he'll run. The argument will be that he trusted Republicans to help him but they were part of the swamp.
From there who knows. If they catch the right issue, they may be able to really make things tough for Republicans.
