How do we get 70 million of our fellow citizens to join us in uniting our nation?

I am greatly relived that Biden won the election, but will the challenge of the extreme wing of the Republican Party that is still in control of their representatives allow them to compromise and cooperate in building a better future for every citizen? What is the way forward from the quagmire of hatred and misinformation that dominates and suffocates them from reality?

I expect that some will come around, but many won't. The rest of us will have to move on without them.

I've heard some speculation about the formation of a third party. If that happens it will weaken the Republican party, not Democrats.

"Love thy neighbor as thyself"

Something that some preferred hatred instead. Some preferred that COVID-19 was not important. Some preferred the brutal treatment of immigrants. Some preferred it was ok to eliminate health care, marriage equality, civil rights, voting rights, women rights. Some preferred fascism over democracy.

There will remain true cultists and rage-aholics who love conflict and chaos for the adrenalin buzz it gives them- how many of those there are remain to be seen. If you listen to RW talk radio (I can only bear to for a few minutes at a stretch) you know they are continuing to rage away about everything and anything like nothings changed.

etc., stuff we need. Inexpensive but sturdy small prefab houses. Neighborhood energy production. Protected local natural areas and wildlife 'pathways' for animal life. Working small farms for local food production. All that stuff we're going to need to face climate change. Local federally-run clinics and small hospitals -- however we can do that. There's no end to the things we need.

8. They Don't Want To Build A Better Future For the Citizens
Sun Nov 8, 2020, 10:02 AM

Democrats want to build better futures. Republicans want to punish their enemies, whoever Fox News tells them to hate -- socialists, Antifa, Black Lives, Mexicans, liberals, the "elite" (which apparently includes social workers and third-grade teachers in public schools). At an admittedly overly general level: Democrats want to promote social well-being, Republicans want to lock up those they perceive to be the bad guys. Trying to appeal to Republicans to make all lives better -- well, maybe it's the right thing to do, but it goes against their inner inclination, and there needs to be a realistic cost-benefit analysis.

And an FCC that will look at and implement policies that make the media landscape more equitable and less hate-filled. Frankly, the reason why this stuff is allowed to flourish is because we’re so precious about dealing with it. But there needs to be consequences for the vile rhetoric and dog-whistles inciting violence spewed by the Far-Right, not to mention consequences for those who actually answer that call to violence or are prepared to answer it. Gitmo’s still open, there’s plenty of room.
