He is loved by fellow despots - greater ones like Putin who loves to give him hints and suggestions and lesser ones who like to see what they can get from him.

There are also those who really like to live under authoritarians. They want to be told what to do, what is expected of them. It makes them feel secure not to have to make decisions for yourself. Unfortunately some of them are a bit confusing, like when they are told masks are bad they go around yellowing "freedom" or some such thing. It's unfortunate that so many of them are living in our country.
