1. My suspicion is that

I think Trump is either going senile, or he was told that the fix was in and that there was no way that Biden could overcome it. He did - barely - but he did. I'm not really sure which. It is not hard to envision Trump as Snidely Whiplash, but the way he acts lately, it's increasingly as if he has trouble conceiving that he could lose, in this case quite literally. In his head, his victory was pre-ordained, and he just had to do the right gestures, incantations and dances to make the Cargo Cult gods come with their sky food.

2. I don't buy it...

...Trump didn’t “go to bed” until after his first lunatic press appearance at 2:30 that morning, and he had already gone directly to the narrative that the big bad corrupt Democrat Party was stealing the election from him. It isn’t the message you send unless you know you’re losing the election and want to rationalize away that fact.

3. He was in an alternate reality bubble for months

Nobody gave him the real polls. He didn't watch any TV where he might have seen a tiny bit of reality. His handlers coddled him and lied to him to keep him from freaking out. But that still doesn't absolve Trump himself of the responsibility to act like a grown up, semi intelligent human being and pay attention to what is going on around him in the real world.
