even IF it got a couple Red states to sign on, which will not happen.

The ONLY way to semi-fix the EC is too vastly expand the House, to say 2,001 members and then more equitably distribute the resultant EV's. It only takes an Act of Congress, not a Constitutional Amendment like doing away the EC.. We have been stick at basically the same number since 1913, when the population was only 97 million. It is closing in on 332 million now.

If we had the same amount of House members as the UK House of Commons does, when adjusted for population, our House would have over 3,200 members. Compared to the German Bundestag, we would have over 2,800. If compared to Denmark and Norway, we would have over 10,000 House members, and compared to Sweden, over 12,000.

The next time we control Congress (hopefully after the 2 GA run offs, but if not, then 2022 when we should gain 3 to 6 next Senate seats (barring the 1st term POTUS's first midterm issues) we need to do this, plus expand the SCOTUS to 15 (and thus resore our 3 vote majority we would have had had not the Rethugs stolen the last 3 seats).

Will it happen?

Probably not, due to power greed. The 435 House members will not willingly agree to dilute their own individual power by adding 1,566 new House members (I think most will bulk at even doing the thoroughly inadequate Wyoming Rule, tbh).

I also do not think that even IF we had a 53-47 Senate Majority after the 2020 election that we would have expanded the SCOTUS, nor expanded the federal lower courts, nor did away with the filibuster, nor would we have even passed the Public Option. Even at 53 or 54 Dems, the votes are not there for any of it from all that I have seen (maybe the lower federal courts could have expanded), and I have dug pretty damn deep on this all. Hell, even adding DC as a state would have been a huge argument I fear.

As the population increases, so does the number of reps...every 10 years after new census data, the number would change.

Additionally, I think we need a federal law that says if you haven't lived in a district for at least 5 years, you CANNOT be elected to rep that district.

The house is supposed to be ground-level representation of We The People, to the federal government. Pretty sure if we actually did that, we would get some shit changed for the better.

The entire institution would have to be virtual at that point lol.

I guess that now that I'm thinking about it, you could move those numbers by a factor of 10 and make it work...100k per rep seems like a lot numerically, but geographically it really isnt, given average population density?...

Unless another political talent like Obama comes around. We should expect our elections to look a lot more like 2000, 2004 and 2020 than 2008 and 2012 when it comes to how the EC shakes out. That’s the reality of the divided country we live in.

have voted for him, despite all the chaos under his watch. If he hadn't completely mishandled the pandemic, I could easily see him winning. It worked out for us (politically) that he's such an idiot. This isn't to take anything from Biden--he ran a damn good campaign and has arguably the most progressive platform out of any of our nominees in history, but there are a lot of bigots and straight-up suckers in this country--and from different walks of life. For example, I couldn't believe that 45's votes among Black people increased this time. He did virtually nothing for us, and he has regularly slammed the BLM movement while defending White supremacists, yet he did better among us than either McCain, GWB, or Romney did. It defies logic. Much of it probably boils down to the misinformation out there, whether it's online, via the radio, or on TV.

with the black social media presence of guys like Tariq Nasheed that keep tearing down the democratic party. I have followed these type of guys for the last 8 years. Their messaging is basically the democratic party is evil and they are the reason why the black community is divided and destroyed. One of the arguments I have heard is them stating liberalism has destroyed the black family encouraging feminism which has resulted in single moms, and a gender war within the black community. It's going to be hard for the democrats to repair that rift. They are going to have to do something for the black community to squash these guys messaging because if they don't it gives credibility to what these guys are saying about the democrats not caring.
