Rant: I'm listening to an interview getting reactions on Joe And Kamala's win

I’ve listened to conservatives who voted for Biden and I’ve listened to conservatives that stuck with Trump.

Throughout the interviews of people that decided to stick with Trump, they’ve said (1) Biden is a Trojan horse for the rise of socialism, and (2) how liberals have resisted Trump and haven’t given him a chance.

This rant is about number 2:

I consider myself a reasonable person. If someone wins the presidency, I recognize that win. I don’t argue the results if someone that I did not support wins the presidency. I WILL ABSOLUTELY ADMIT THAT I DID NOT GIVE DONALD TRUMP A CHANCE. I WILL ADMIT THAT LOUD AND PROUD! NEVER! EVER! WORST PRESIDENT OF MY SHORT LIFE AND SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED!

...and let me tell you exactly the reason why. He’s never given us a chance. NOT ONCE did Trump ever try to reach across the aisle. Trump tried to do everything on a partisan party line.

Centrist judges? None!
Centrist legislation? Nope!
Centrist message? Nonexistent!
Compromise? No thanks!

Presidents usually reach across the aisle at some point.

Bill Clinton worked with Republicans, and even signed legislation that Republicans liked. Bill Clinton throughout his presidency moved more to the right as his presidency went along.

Bush 43 reached across the aisle and worked with Democrats. You could even make the argument that Bush 43 moved a little left on certain issues.

Obama started in the center and considered Republican ideas. Obama worked with Republicans where he could. He tried to work with Republican leader John Boehner on legislation that Republicans can get behind.

The Republican leader on the hill couldn’t get his own party to stop resisting. They didn’t give Barack Obama a chance!

Barack Obama thought about Republicans when he nominated a centrist judge that Republicans claimed they could get behind.

Trump ran on a message of ‘FUCK DEMOCRATS!’ in 2016.
Trump governed with a ‘FUCK DEMOCRATS!’ attitude the entire four years.
Trump ran on a “FUCK DEMOCRATS!’ message in 2020.

How exactly am I supposed to give him a chance when he’s never given me one?

There is a difference between giving a chance to broccoli and brussels sprouts vs giving a chance to arsenic and cyanide.

Trump was the latter.

3. They complain that everybody hates Trump. Do they ever question why everybody hates him so much?

Most people generally hate a sadistic bully, not that big of a mystery. Americans traditionally hate bullies

I have never hated someone without a reason. When it comes to Trump, the list of reasons is so long, my fingers would cramp up before I could type half of them.

11. Absolutely! My number 1 reason for disliking Trump is that he's an asshole

Before I get to any policy disagreements, I’d spend the most time talking about what a dick that man is.

we voted against him, so he hates us, has always hated us, why should he do anything nice for us or say anything nice about us.

that's the way he thinks, so he's always acted like he only ever cared about republicans.

so why on earth should we accept that?

Those fires on the west coast damn sure went ignored. He made one visit and that was pretty much all the attention it got... but he made sure that the several rounds of agricultural aid for his trade war and COVID relief went smoothly.

some of those folks. And can imagine if we had run Sanders or Warren? Biden won because they couldn't pin the faux socialist label on him.

I, truthfully, think there's a real opportunity for Biden and Harris to widen the tent. I think Trump left the door wide open to widen the tent with issues that he fucked up on and there is a chance to get in and make things work for people.

Worked on legislation or budgets with 'Republican only' meetings - at the White House. That is to say, would not even involve Democratic representatives in negotiations.

I remember Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders and a few others reaching out at the beginning of his term and saying, "hey if you want to do this infrastructure thing and really do some things to help American workers, lets do it." I think they saw that some of the stuff he campaigned on was definitely out of place in the Republican party. They weren't stupid of course and knew he was probably just being a conman but it was worth a try. Of course it took about 2 weeks or less to realize he lacked the competence and intelligence to avoid being completely captured by the Republican party.
