Speaking earlier with Nicolle Wallace on MSNBC, Schmidt was very angry and attacked republicans for their appeasement of Trump and his bullshit.
I know a lot of people have suspicions about The Lincoln Project. But I see it this way: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
These people stepped up in their opposition to Trump. But they have not walked away. They are throwing their weight in on the Georgia Senate races.
Schmidt and Stuart Stevens in particular have turned on the Republican Party 1,000%.
If down the road they seek to form a new Conservative party, I think that is something good for Democracy.

(14,061 posts)Hes correct that the refusal of the GOP to put a stop to this is a crime for the ages.
Thats why I love Steve Schmidt. He does NOT tolerate criminal fools.

(9,313 posts)"mantle" Republican, given how the party has debased itself. . . with the slide downward becoming exponentially faster in the years from Iran Contra through torture, and into the horror of the past four years.
As far as I'm concerned, any office holder, or seeker of office who doesn't reject the label is a debased human with no moral compass.
I don't care what a relatively sane right leaning person calls themselves. As long as they denounce what the Republican Party has become and openly abandon it, they redeem themselves a bit in my book. To see a widespread rejection would truly be good for the country.
I don't expect to, but as the song goes "Wouldn't it be nice if. . ."
