(Independent UK) Regularly eating chilli peppers could provide previously unrecognised health benefits helping to lengthen peoples lives, a new study suggests.
Chilli eaters may have a significantly reduced risk of dying from cardiovascular disease or cancer, according to preliminary research which will be presented this week at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2020.
While previous research has found consuming chillies has an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer and blood-glucose regulating effect due to capsaicin which gives chilli its characteristic hot taste, the study is the first large scale effort to compare reported consumption of chilli with disease mortality. ..........(more)

(8,166 posts)Loves me some chilis. I did see a study where poor Asians who ate huge amounts of chilis had some issues with dementia, but I'm waiting for a confirmation of that one.

(13,538 posts)in a few things too. I eat about three bell peppers a week. I hope those count too. I could probably bump the peppers up a bit more too.

(64,852 posts)I use cayenne in lots of sauces, I put chopped jalapeños or habaneros on anything Mexican, I use Korean chili paste in stir fry, and I hot sauce my tomato juice every day!
I didn't know I had 136 years left!

(64,852 posts)Perhaps it's become part of my digestive mechanisms! LOL!!
Other than a minor case of reflux caused by bronchitis coughing, I've never even had a case of heartburn!
Go figure!

(11,949 posts)I find if I get plenty of fiber in my diet it mitigates it. Plus, if you eat pickled peppers it can be a problem. If you eat them fresh the problem disappears.

(11,949 posts)With Salt like Tabasco does it. I put white oak slats in mason jars to do so.
Then mix with white wine vinegar and send it thru the food processor. Strain thru cheesecloth and I get great hot sauce. Give it away for Christmas presents.
I eat hot peppers daily. Guess it is good for me.

(11,637 posts)I do everything by weight. 2.5% salt, just like sauerkraut. Ferment for weeks. Ive got some habanero, carrot, onion, garlic blend that is killer. I dont have the oak, just use Mason jars.

(11,949 posts)Just put a few slats in your jars.
Cant stand the sweet overtones of habanero or any of that family of peppers. Like the heat. But that fruitiness is cloying to me.
More a fan of Tabasco, Cayenne , jalapeño and Serrano.
Enough thread hijacking! Foodies.
Have a nice evening.
