The original sin of the Obama administration was looking forward to the future and not backwards to the past. President Obama was a net gain for the country without question, but the failure to hold the Bush administration accountable for its invasions, war crimes, torture, and other atrocities left the path open for a Trump victory in 2016. Many of those let off the hook for the Bush administration's crimes came back to continue their careers under Trump, inside and outside the administration.
