Sheesh.
Kenosha shooters mother tries to deflect blame from her son
ANTIOCH, Ill. (AP) - The mother of an Illinois 17-year-old charged in the fatal shooting of two men during a protest in Wisconsin said neither her son nor the protesters should have been on the street that night and put much of the blame for what happened on police and the governor.

(20,489 posts)It was one week before I was supposed to be in a cousins wedding.
I got two black eyes...one week before the wedding.
My mom said (not a quote, but the "feeling" was there):
on edit: I was still in the wedding...with sunglasses.

(1,648 posts)Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that a minor is not allowed to openly carry a loaded assault weapon on Main Street USA... And no, the goddamned right wing media is not the law of the land and does not have absolute rule over public opinion either.

(82,849 posts)Though I can't say her argument that neither the demonstrators nor her little boy should have been on the street that night holds much water. She enjoys the right to free speech just like the demonstrators her boy killed did.

I've watched a kid smack or kick another kid, with his mom there and then see her deny it ever happened, despite having watched it.
They just can't accept that their kids have done anything wrong.
I will agree with her on one small point. The police in Kenosha that night encouraged violence and vigilantism, however, that doesn't absolve Rittenhouse of his responsibility for HIS OWN actions. He made choices and he needs to face the consequences for his choices.

(12,645 posts)There would have been no protests, and even if there were, he wouldn't have been given water and attaboys for showing up armed, he would have been checked out ("out of state, hmmm, what do you plan to do here, and do you actually own that rifle?" ), and at least closely watched and arrested as soon as he made an aggressive movement in the crowd. He might have even been arrested for being underaged with a firearm that he wasn't the registered owner to, or at a minimum, been asked to go back home and not participate.
If the government had been doing it's job, there wouldn't have been a straw purchase to illegally get her li'l darling a semiautomatic long gun so he could shoot people.
Also, if the government had been doing it's job, he might have been able to get the support and psychiatric help he obviously needs before he went on a shooting rampage.
But she's still got to come to grips that what he did was monstrous, and totally his choice, whether she feels it reflects on her or not.
