Biden World Fears Trump Will Bring 'Weird Shit' to Their Inauguration

President-elect Joe Biden’s team is confronting a logistical headache as it prepares for his formal inauguration on January 20, 2021: How can you hold a mass-attended event in the midst of a pandemic while also preventing it from becoming a Trumpist counter-protest?

At issue is a potentially combustible mix of complications owing to the likelihood that both COVID-19 and President Donald Trump’s hurt feelings will persist into the time when Biden is scheduled to be sworn into office.

Officials who have been involved in talks around inauguration planning said public safety would be top of mind. Over the campaign, Biden consistently downscaled events or went entirely virtual to ensure no risk of COVID spread on his behalf. The expectation is that that mindset won’t change for his inauguration.

“Inaugurals always require intricate planning. This one will be a really delicate dance to have that element of accessibility without risk,” said Steve Kerrigan, who served as the CEO of the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC). “I cannot see a president-elect Biden, like Trump, putting narcissism or ego ahead of the safety of people.”

...

One senior adviser who helped organize a recent inaugural, said that the bipartisan, bicameral congressional committee is not obligated to follow the incoming president’s lead, but that it customarily does so. But there is added confusion about what might happen this year as Trump continues to contest the election results. The current chair of the congressional committee, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO), said on Sunday that they were “anticipating an outside, full-scale inauguration that's easier to scale back than to scale up.”

over the next two months. I don't care if the inauguration involves three people in the Oval office.

When Trump leaves, I'm finished with him and I don't want to see Trumpers gathering to destroy a Biden/Harris event ever again.

through the holidays, and has already ceased to be a critical election issue. (Though Trump's cultists are now pathetically insisting it'll disappear after the inauguration.)

And the two GA senate seats will have been decided two weeks before, releasing McConnell and co to pivot from leading the "always Trumpers" to virtuous posturing as patriotic Americans.

We don't want to see a bunch of people all glommed together doing that even if it's outdoors.

Better to have the heavy construction equipment come in and televise it so we can all enjoy the experience.

When that wall went up I had a nagging feeling that this was not going to end well. Only dictators who refuse to leave put up walls.

I'm hoping they have to drag him out in public though I think, knowing what a coward he is, that he'll slink out in the dead of night.

Do not have a mass gathering inauguration. The celebration will come when Covid is defeated. The prior administration has wasted too much time already.

Then when Covid is gone, when can have a proper celebration. Fake45 did it when confirming Amy Barrett with a photo-op and Justice Clarence but had repeated the actual confirm with Roberts later. We need the optics to show the country that Biden is in.

A few people can be there, heck, they can probably figure out ways for some musicians to perform, but no big audience. Stay at home and watch it on TV.
