Even in shithole countries dictators rig the vote and then announce the results. Even they aren't brazen enough to let the results be announced and then say they don't count.

(52,195 posts)He's pissed and confused now because he didn't cheat enough to actually win.
Cheaters rarely have a backup plan for that, so he's completely befuddled.

(713 posts)That is why Trump has been so quiet. He and his criminal enablers are planning a coup. Why else would Trump fire the Secretary of Defense and purge the top officials at the Pentagon? He intends to use the military to stay in office. I hope that I am wrong, but this is not the behavior of someone planning to leave office in two months. This is the threat of a fascist takeover of our democracy.

(713 posts)I am not trying to cause anxiety to anyone, but we have to be real. Why is Trump purging the leadership at the Pentagon at this particular time? This is not the behavior of someone planning to leave in two months. Trump is clearly up to something. I think it would be dangerous to miss the warning signs.

(52,195 posts)But the nation will not stand for it. It's one thing to rig a vote. If you win, it's hard for the losing side to prove it so convincingly that the nation overrules it.
But if you lose the vote and then ignore it, oh, that will seriously piss off the vast majority of the country.
He's trying for a coup, but I really don't think he can get away with it.

(128,838 posts)Because Esper refused to go along with using the military to "quell" civilian protests? Esper had expected it and had actually already had a letter of resignation drafted.
Some of this stuff is like the Red Queen-type "Off with his head!!!" outburst that he does when pissed off.

(2,626 posts)Hard to imagine the rest of the free world would be happy to see the world's most powerful military in the tiny hands of a psychopathic dictator who goes all gaga over the likes of the leaders of Russia and N Korea.

(713 posts)I don't think the Trumpers would succeed, but they might try. Esper was fired in part because he would not use the military against American protesters. Trump is a deranged narcissist and I would put nothing past him and his enablers. Why is he messing with the leadership of the Pentagon at this point? This is not the behavior of someone planning to leave in two months.
