Florida introducing new laws allowing citizens to shoot 'looters and rioters'

Florida governor Ron DeSantis has drafted "anti-mob" legislation to include looting in expanded “Stand Your Ground” laws that would increase protections for a shooting defence to riots.

The push to expand self-defence laws comes after civil unrest erupted across the United States and Florida over the summer in the lead up to the presidential election.

It would add looting the list of "forcible felonies" to justify the use of force against people who commit a burglary within 500 feet of violent or disorderly assembly, according to the "anti-mob legislation draft" obtained by The Miami Herald under a public records request.

“It allows for vigilantes to justify their actions,” a former Miami-Dade County prosecutor, Denise Georges, who has worked with Stand Your Ground cases told the Herald. “It also allows for death to be the punishment for a property crime — and that is cruel and unusual punishment. We cannot live in a lawless society where taking a life is done so casually and recklessly.”

such as any member of a mob would shoot first before s/he was shot? Going to jail for assault could be better than ending up dead by a trigger-happy Trumper.

They clearly are promoting gun violence.

The only thing I can think of that would be unintended would be if a white person killed another white person.

They don't want that, though they're clearly willing to let that happen if it means promoting gun violence against black people.

legislators say, wait a minute. You can’t have militias posting up snipers to shoot looters. That’s up to police, and hopefully they are more interested in arresting them.

Could it be any black kid wearing a hoody walking in front of a store that the owner feels threatened by? Does the looter actually have to be in the store or can it be assumed that he is planning to loot by standing on the side walk.
I assume DeSantis will think that a 17 year old is mature enough to go through selective reasoning to determine the difference between protester and a looter.

Practically any murder in Florida can now be excused by a good lawyer, saying the killer was sure he was shooting at a looter. That guy across the street putting up a Biden/Harris sign? He was looting his neighbor's free speech, so he stood his ground and pumped 8 rounds into the "looter."

Anyone who thinks THAT could never happen has never lived in the USA for very long.
