Important stuff:
The Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Justice Department is headed for a dramatic makeover under President-elect Joe Biden, who has pledged to make racial equality a centerpiece of his agenda https://bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-11-12/biden-is-set-to-undo-the-trump-years-with-civil-rights-pivot?sref=KTqA07b1 via @bpolitics
Biden Is Set to Undo the Trump Years With Civil Rights Pivot

Snip
Civil-rights enforcement will look a lot different under Biden, who is certain to undo the Trump years the same way Trump tried to undo the Obama years -- but with a vengeance, said Linda Chavez, who served as the White House Director of Public Liaison for former President Ronald Reagan.
Anything having to do with race, immigration, voting -- I think youre going to see a really dramatic shift in the people appointed and their priorities, said Chavez, now a conservative commentator and author.
Under Trump, one of the highest-profile actions taken by the Civil Rights Division was a lawsuit accusing Yale University of discriminating against White and Asian applicants by taking race into consideration to admit more Black and Hispanic students.

All applicants should expect and know that they will be judged by their character, talents and achievements and not the color of their skin, Eric Dreiband, the divisions current chief, said when he announced the case in October.

(8,445 posts)But I'm super excited to see what happens in the coming years. It's such a refreshing change after the last four years of gloom and doom as OrangeLoser tried so hard to undo progress we had made.

(33,643 posts)We definitely need significant police reform, reinstatement of DACA, rejoining families separated at the border, and lots of other things rolled back. Stop building more new wall OF COURSE.
But ... people don't want people coming here illegally. I don't, I know that. I don't want a wall, but we need border security.
And people want fairness, not special privileges.
I'm of a mind that when it comes to college admissions, if we going to give certain people a leg up, it should be the economically disadvantaged ... NO MATTER their race or color. You will inherently end up giving people of color a statistically larger degree of assistance through this means, without giving the impression of special privileges being bestowed.
My $.02.

(13,964 posts)is a key Democratic belief. It would be absolutely wrong to do this to our base which are POC. Bidens smart, he wont do away with it.

(33,643 posts)I certainly think private schools should be able to set such policies, they're private.
And states, if they want to, should be able to do the same for their state schools.
I'm dubious about the political value though at the federal level for the Party.
It's not that I don't think it's a nice thing to pursue, but there's a lot of people hurting of every race these days.
To push affirmative action heavily in college admissions invites criticism that has a reasonably sound basis. All poor people are disadvantaged when it comes to college.
You can help a disproportionate # of people of color by simply insisting on programs that help the disadvantaged, and you don't give the other side any argument/talking point against you.
I'm a bit of a pragmatist, I admit.
