A clip of a televangelist weeping at the thought of a Joe Biden presidency is gong viral on social media.
Jack Hibbs, the senior pastor of the Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Chino, California, prayed for President Donald Trump's victory during a sermon that was streamed live online the day after Election Day.
"Please God... you are pro-life. And one man is and one man is not," Hibbs said, his voice cracking as he kneeled in front of a large screen with the word "WHY" written on it.
At the time of the service, Biden appeared on course to win the White House, while Trump had started airing baseless claims of widespread voter fraud and that the election was being stolen from him.

Biden/Harris won about 60% of the white vote, when excluding all of their evangelical voters who strongly voted for Trump AGAIN.
They were about 42% of all the white voters per the CNN exit poll, and that's significantly higher than their percentage in everyday life.
Religion has motivated people to do all kinds of crazy things throughout history.

Idiots. Hypocrites. Jesus would be braiding his horsehair whip at the mere thought of them in their luxury suites, giant mega churches, video screens, and luxury cars.

(14,852 posts)Jimmy Carter wore his Christian beliefs on his sleeve, but ticked off guys like Falwell by entertaining the taxation idea during his Presidency.
Then Reagan and the Republicans swooped them up.

(11,949 posts)Falwell Senior, Oral Roberts and other evangelicals had been forced to integrate their colleges. Reagan made them think he would change the Regulations and allow them to resegregate. So they started ginning up the whole Abortion thing. When Roe was decided even the Southern Baptist did not object as they were not political then.
Ive greatly simplified the narrative but I have read much about it. Plus I was raised Southern Baptist. Never even heard Abortion mentioned in church till Reagan.

(14,852 posts)I posted a Samantha Bee video lower in this thread that delved more into it, but she did a great job of summarizing it quickly.
Heck, I'll just post it again here (although you're already aware of what happened).

Scriptural truths
Ten biblical episodes and prophecies provide an unequivocal expression of God's attitude toward human life, especially the ontological status of "unborn children" and their pregnant mothers-to-be. Brief summaries:
A pregnant woman who is injured and aborts the fetus warrants financial compensation only (to her husband), suggesting that the fetus is property, not a person (Exodus 21:22-25).
The gruesome priestly purity test to which a wife accused of adultery must submit will cause her to abort the fetus if she is guilty, indicating that the fetus does not possess a right to life (Numbers 5:11-31).
God enumerated his punishments for disobedience, including "cursed shall be the fruit of your womb" and "you will eat the fruit of your womb," directly contradicting sanctity-of-life claims (Deuteronomy 28:18,53).
Elisha's prophecy for soon-to-be King Hazael said he would attack the Israelites, burn their cities, crush the heads of their babies and rip open their pregnant women (2 Kings 8:12).
King Menahem of Israel destroyed Tiphsah (also called Tappuah) and the surrounding towns, killing all residents and ripping open pregnant women with the sword (2 Kings 15:16).
Isaiah prophesied doom for Babylon, including the murder of unborn children: "They will have no pity on the fruit of the womb" (Isaiah 13:18).
For worshiping idols, God declared that not one of his people would live, not a man, woman or child (not even babies in arms), again confuting assertions about the sanctity of life (Jeremiah 44 -8).
God will punish the Israelites by destroying their unborn children, who will die at birth, or perish in the womb, or never even be conceived (Hosea 9:10-16).
For rebelling against God, Samaria's people will be killed, their babies will be dashed to death against the ground, and their pregnant women will be ripped open with a sword (Hosea 13:16).
Jesus did not express any special concern for unborn children during the anticipated end times: "Woe to pregnant women and those who are nursing" (Matthew 24:19).

(14,852 posts)It was mostly Catholics who were upset about Roe v Wade initially.
It started over racial segregation issues for Southern evangelicals, so their evangelical leaders found a new rallying cry... abortion. Meanwhile, evangelism has spread across the country and the racist history is mostly avoided.
Samantha Bee covered the history in this video from over 4 years ago.
Edit: The end of that video demonstrates how Samantha Bee underestimated them in 2016, though! Wow.

(82,849 posts)I'll leave aside the discussion of just how much the military has to do with the gospel, and ask Jacky boy which family has actually served in the military and which family hasn't.
But he's obviously wondering why. As surprising as it is to you as it is to me, the good lord has chosen me to be his messenger to Jack Hibbs to explain "why": Because, Jack, there's just something about you that pisses God off.

To the Gods, we are nothing more than a parlor trick, for entertainment purposes.
A petri dish, with a "let's see what THIS combination will do"... I'll check back in a few millennia and see.
Eternity is a REALLY long time, and the Godinites tend to get quite bored.
