Why the Republican party is so enthralled to Trump.

What else do they have? What big policy agenda are they trying to build a national consensus around?

Cutting taxes? Done. Do they seriously want to run on Jeff Bezos' taxes are too high?

De-Regulation? Most sane corporations are installing their own policies to combat climate change.

Justices on the SCOTUS? Done. They stole three seats.

So what else is there? Without any real policy agenda, why do they even exist?

This is why they have to hook their wagon to Trump. They know that they cannot win elections with their normal, establishment Republican candidates. That's what Obama showed them. Twice.

Without Trump, they're nothing. Sure. They still have their lightly populated red states, and the racist legacy states of the South. But that's not enough. Over the past few presidential cycles, they've lost VA, CO, GA, and AZ. They're losing states more than they're gaining.

They have no choice but to get behind a complete buffoon.

For example: Obama's economy was in shambles, until their hero took office and then it took off.

Wash rinse repeat.

Now they will play this game in reverse. Everything is wonderful now, as soon as Biden takes office...the world has gone to hell.

place where Republicans are competitive with Democrats. A lot of people are still pulled one way or another by hot-button issues aggravated by media. They might like Medicare For All, but they still flip when they hear about tearing down statues and defunding police. Trumpy could see how easy it was to lead his followers around by the nose harping on about immigration and such, and he was able to push through a bunch of far RW ideas in the meantime. The trick for us is to keep our promises to the members of the Biden coalition without making the social conservatives bolt. That's going to be walking a fine line, and the GOP are going to try to push us off of it at every turn.

single party Repub govt in perpetuity (per Karl Rove ) and they want to shrink govt and drown it in a bathtub (per grover norquist I believe). Of course they never said what would fill the power vacuum once the govt was drowned in the bathtub, but by now its pretty clear it would be some combination of oligarchy / plutocracy / kleptocracy

So Trump has served the party pretty well and helped them to further their goals. He served as the diversion while the crooks made off with the loot. Make no mistake, it was a choice the mainstream repub party made. dTrumpf wasnt something that just happened to them. They chose it.

13. In the end, what can they do about it?

What 'cultural war' bill can they pass? Force NFL players not to kneel for the national anthem? Force MGM to re-cast the next James Bond?

This is pretty petty stuff.
