Im gonna tell ya.
I think I figured this out. I swear it just came to me like an Aha! experience.
The Trump campaign had it all figured out: they identified 70,000,000+ people who would come out and vote FOR him. This was accomplished via the Russkis as well as careful monitoring of websites and data. No stone was left unturned. It was a brilliant plan: it would not only be a majority, but a record number of votes for any President, thus making a case for vindication of the autocratic Nazification of the country.
However, they had little idea of the abject hatred of their client and his associated policies. They were clever and astute enough to recognize the former VP Biden was the only candidate who could be competitive, and thus the early campaign to destroy him. But it failed and assumptions were made. They were guilty of not taking into account the Reaction by the minority community to the racist policies such as the sanctioning of police-initiated murders and the separation of the children from their parents and caging them like abused animals.
The outpouring of hatred of Trump was overwhelming and yet...and YET, the good guys barely won the states critical to the victory in the electoral college. The election was rigged to favor Trump but, like Karl Roves complaints about Ohio in 2008, it was insufficient to overcome the malevolence held by the opposition. They began to sense this possibility at the beginning of the Pandemic and due to their general ignorance, simply blew it.
Think about it: they garnered more votes than any other candidate in history. They had no idea that we would garner more, for they had no concept of the level of hatred and despising of their candidate, they simply thought they did.
On many tombstones they epitaph should read: I wish Id known....

(182,632 posts)Trumps position as the incumbent should have been enough to carry him even with the virus failures. Seriously theres almost no precedent for this. Poppa Bush lost in a three way race and to a candidate/campaign that was a juggernaut.
Given what the GOP gained in the House and held in the Senate this looks even worse. And this is all with a massive suppression campaign that reached as high as the Supreme Court.

I firmly believe people of color saved this country in this election.

(90,565 posts)... and I include our friends at The Lincoln Project who threw in with us and we showed up to vote in spite of every damn thing they threw at us it really gives me hope for this country.
We outvoted the bastards when Hillary ran, and we outvoted the bastards by even more this time, plus we had better targeting strategy. Its far from a perfect system, but we won this time.
It gives me hope that we outnumber the people who want to live in a theocracy or a fascist state.
