Wow. McCabe says this regarding the Russia report:
"There is some very, very serious, very specific undeniable intelligence that has NOT come out ... that would risk casting the president in a very negative light."

(3,997 posts)At some point, you have to draw a line. Whats the point in protecting sources and methods if the intelligence never becomes actionable, when protecting sources outweighs protecting our democracy.

(73,536 posts)likely that more information will be declassified after January. That is a good thing.
I'm catching up on some of the Senate committee hearings in recent days. I think we all knew Lindsey Graham and his beast fiend republican friends were only doing this to try to help Trump's re-election hopes. And I am confident that Lindsey was intent upon increasing his own chances.

(4,858 posts)...Trump actively aiding Russian agents in blackmailing US politicians. Graham is obvious. But how about Ted Cruz, say? Trump openly suggested his father *helped assassinate JFK*. And yet, Mountie Boy has totally ignored this, and acted as one of Trump's chief lap dogs. Either he has no moral center whatsoever--always a possibility for "conservative" pols--or else, he's been forced to do what he's doing. Yes, this is just a guess, but if I were a betting man, I'd put hard cash down that mass blackmail has been *one* of the things going on the past five years...

(11,949 posts)Its easy for us on the internet to say they should do so. But we would not be facing time in the federal pen.
One of their biggest fears is Biden releasing the information. Not that it will change many minds. They will claim it is fake.
58Sunliner
(4,384 posts)But it seems as if that is abused to provide cover and means to a few, when the information should be critical to the understanding of the risks to Americans. I understand protecting sources, but that could be addressed.

(9,137 posts)Money from Putin/Russian government going directly into Trump's pocket to influence U.S. foreign policy.
Specifics of where the cash originates, and how it got to Trump, can't be revealed because that would endanger U.S. intelligence assets embedded in the Russian government.

(11,949 posts)I assume you are aware that only the administration can decide what is classified and what is not. And that only the administration controlled DOJ can bring charges? Pelosi and Schumer have none of those powers. Thats why winning matters.
Stop blaming democrats for not taking actions they dont have the power to take.

Do you really imagine that the House has the ability to impose their will on all the issues you ticked off? That's -- fairly misguided, at best.

(7,431 posts)... that John Kelly directs severe criticism at Trump for forbidding his staff to work on the Biden transition.
There's a message here. This is a show of power. Trump had better listen.
But, based upon what we know about Trumpy-Boy, he'll seethe with defiance and will now ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to work with the transition team. No one tells him what to do.
If Kelly is a strategic thinker (McCabe certainly is), then he's working a strategy that's manipulating Trump. And my guess is that he is. A strategic thinker can reasonably predict what a reaction to a message will be. Kelly is manipulating Trump to heighten his rigidity about not working with the transition team. He wants Trump to overreact.
Both McCabe and Kelly know that Trump is vulnerable.
This is like a Shakespearian play.

(7,431 posts)McCabe's organization specializes in intercepting cables, or telephone calls, transmitted documents, and emails. That's the intelligence community's stock-in-trade. McCabe knows that world. He's known something "horrible" about Trump for a long time, and it's probably one of the reasons that Trump got rid of McCabe.
Remember when McCabe was fired by Trump? McCabe seemed to have this look on his face that said to Trump, "You have no idea what I know about you. You're a fool to play with this (IC) world."

I did see Michael Steele claiming McConnell would be more inclined than people expected of Biden's picks. Perhaps it's related down the twisted road? If McConnell loses his majority this might get extremely interesting.

(5,499 posts)That's probably why they are stonewalling Biden getting classified briefings. The new administration I'm guessing has some ideas what they will find out. But I bet there will be some crazy surprises as well.

(8,998 posts)WTF
Seriously, is there no cover for such a release as in the whistle blower act?
genxlib
(5,524 posts)The common theme seems to be it is not being released only because it is classified. Meaning it could be de-classified or someone could break the law to release it.
However, you have to consider the possibility that the information is simply too valuable to release. Suppose for instance, that a high ranking person in Putin's immediate office is actually spying for us. He could be telling us important things about the Trump-Putin relationship. But that still might not be a big enough reason to risk his life or lose access to that source of intelligence.
I am convinced that Republicans often leverage classified situations in a very cynical manner knowing that the truth can't come out. For instance, my personal conspiracy theory is that Benghazi had something to do with a CIA classified operation that went horribly wrong. But they still hammered Clinton for it knowing she couldn't tell the truth about what really happened.

(1,850 posts)Seriously, that's the big question. Selling arms, issuing contracts, that's grift. But giving away or selling secrets, names, locations, protocols, etc to undermine our safety is something he's certainly done and will continue to do. Many agencies are aware of this through back channels, other governments, and our own Intel which is functioning but compromised.
So, If the president commits treason what can we do about it? We're in totally new territory.
The Senate won't act, as many GOP are complicit, and they maintain a sitting prez can't be prosecuted?!? I think our founders design was the Congress and Senate would bring impeachment charges if such a thing happened.
Could the new congress file treason charges, that might implicate some in the Senate?
If some in the Senate are implicated, they would not get to vote in impeachment hearings.
If impeachment hearings were started, would he resign and get pence to pardon him?
I'm just thinking about this as I read your post.
They must have outright proof of his treasonous acts. Now that Biden is coming in, they can report it to someone who will act on it, not bury it, not fire them for reporting it, not make their lives hell, etc.
And let's not forget about the sedition, plotting a coup, firing of key personnel and replacing them with loyalists.
If they're saying this information could cast the president in very negative way, it must be really bad.
