Parents Tried to Cover Up a 'Superspreader' Dance. Disaster Ensued.

NEW: I investigated a giant, unsanctioned “superspreader” homecoming dance in Missouri. Turns out it was thrown by parents, and they may have tried to hide the number and identities of attendees in order to make contact tracing harder.

Parents Tried to Cover Up a ‘Superspreader’ Dance. Disaster Ensued.
A massive, unmasked homecoming party at a steakhouse in Missouri included a deliberate campaign to hide from pesky health officials and contact tracers.

From the link: Regarding anticipated contact tracing if any of the partygoers got Covid-19, one parent is quoted as saying

“I’m sorry, but if you’re OK with your kid ratting other kids out to the health department for attending a private event, you are the bigger problem …. SMDH SOCIALISM,” she wrote. “I don’t have to answer any of their questions. F#%* them.”

It's a hoax -- and alternatively, "really no worse than the flu"

These parents weren't worried about this because ...
Well -- why should they?
(Incidentally -- any charges ever leveled, or fines assessed? Organizers, attendees, restaurant?)

fined and shut down. Not sure what would happen to the parents. At the very least, they would be called out publicly as irresponsible.

As I shared in previous posts, my brother lives there (near Fort Leonard Wood). Those people do not give a fuck about anyone or anything else but what they want and their "rights." And they are teaching their kids to think exactly the same way. But they sure as hell will line up to get health care should one of them get sick. Practically the whole area is Trumpville. Hell, if he wanted to move someplace where people would bow and scrape to him, central Missouri would be tops on the list. However, what they don't realize, is that he doesn't give a flying fuck about any of them, and wouldn't be caught dead in their little redneck, meth-fueled, goat-ropered neck of the woods.

it that it is between MO and WI.
at one point, when MO was shut down, jb considered closing down the bridge at st louis. i suspect he didnt do it because there is a big pp clinic on this side of that bridge.
but ppl were flooding over here to restaurants cuz they were open on this side.
WI not only opened the colleges, it opened the bars. underage drinking is a sacrament up there and always has been. and guess which state a bunch of those kids live in?

damn, it will be good to have a president.
maybe some day, like ireland, we will be 'a nation once again'.

eta the song.

Am so glad my son graduated last May (2019)...

There is currently no city-wide mask mandate. Though the district has asked students to wear them, the staffer at the high school told The Daily Beast that they have seen students refusing to wear masks, or wearing them inappropriately, hanging from their ears or under their chins.

Deanne Lyons, a member of the Rolla City Council representing the city’s sixth ward, told The Daily Beast on Friday that the city plans to discuss the issue of a mask-mandate again on Monday. But in past meetings, they said, that went poorly.

“The night I was sworn in, someone showed up comparing mask mandates to the Star of David,” said Lyons, “insinuat[ing] that the council members were Nazis for having any restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID.”

“That was in June,” they added. “The last meeting had someone citing a right-wing conspiracy website about masks making our lives worse.”

I expect a few unintended teenage pregnancies to also be resulting from this dance.

Missouri has made their choice!

Rest of the world . . . well, we want to survive! Wear masks? Social distancing? Month long lock downs? Fine with us, it's for our own good!

Missourians . . . Our Freedoms! We do what we like! It's a hoax! Can't see the virus, so it can't harm you, here, have another denial sandwich!

a potential shut down. Cases have shot up there recently, from around 1% to 8%. Bars, gymns, and restaurants have been put on limited hours now. Cuomo has called for people to stay home with immediate family only for Thanksgiving. No more than 10 in a house, unless the immediate household already consists of more than ten. Buffalo police are carrying masks with them and handing them out to people when they see someone without one.

All students at state colleges must be tested within 3 days of going home for Thanksgiving and classes will not resume again until January. Any students who test positive will be kept on campus in quarantine. Cuomo has requested private colleges to do the same.

I'm not in Buffalo, but close enough that cases are rising here, too. I have been stocking up when I shop in case of another lockdown.

Western New York as a whole is headed in a bad direction.

The University of Rochester states yesterday that they are nearing 100% occupancy on treating new cases.

We’ve been setting daily records for five or six days now?

The area as a whole isn’t far from being designated an Orange Zone after only recently being upgraded to Yellow.

Where do we go from here?

My fear is nowhere good.

After Thanksgiving, I expect we'll be there. Red by January. Too many people are still careless, or tired of precautions and letting up on them. So now I am double masking and will order goggles today.

There's a church near me with a program to give away clothing and food. I talked with a woman there yesterday because I have some items to donate. She was concerned that a shutdown would mean they could not continue operating. With people out of work, the number of people coming to them is increasing. Her backup plan in case of a shutdown is to stand at the door handing out gift cards to grocery stores, so now they need money donations.

But, hey, we have good advice, don't we? Just don't let the virus dominate you, right?
