As hard as the work is, societal fatigue is harder, said a Utah pulmonary specialist. He is tired of walking out of an ICU where COVID-19 has killed another patient, and walking into a grocery store where he hears people saying it doesnt exist.
No One Is Listening to Us
More people than ever are hospitalized with COVID-19. Health-care workers cant go on like this.

A friend of mine works as a contact tracer and her husband is an ICU doctor. She told me he saw a patient who had #COVID19, and badly. After she came off of a ventilator, he asked her how she thought she got the virus.
I dont have COVID, she said, It doesnt exist.

(6,791 posts)I went to Twitter, and there's one more snippet - the tracer told her she had tested positive for it and that's why she was on the ventilator, and she insisted it was just a heart condition.
Of course if she's a Trump* supporter, then it's her heart which doesn't exist.

(6,791 posts)put the CoViD into near-fatal territory, if it were pre-existing. But it was still the CoViD that put her on the ventilator, yes.
But don't doom the country too fast. We have always had people this stupid. We need to look, historically, about what we were doing during periods they didn't get into governing.

(9,352 posts)There are so many who are primed for the propaganda. And, there is so much more in the pipeline ready to spew forth.
I have tried to be optimistic but its sinking fast. I am glad that I only have another 15, maybe 20 years on earth. I can survive this. I have now been telling my grandchildren to go somewhere else. I dont see a great future for this country. I just hope it doesnt destroy anywhere else.

Last year I broke the rule of talking politics with my mom and told her she would be going to hell if she voted for the people with the R next to their name. She is a staunch Catholic, still attends mass in person, and apparently took it poorly. Who knew?

The website says nothing of the sort. The SYRINGE has a chip so people can track when and where they got the vaccine for future reference. It is not in the vaccine. Confronted her about my findings. Well, thats not what I read. It is hopeless.

(5,122 posts)same thing about getting Obamacare. Anyone that got Obamacare would get a chip. Of course he had done his " research" and sent me his evidence that showed where people were going to have an implant that would be tracked. He was convinced that there was a bill that said everyone would be implanted with a chip.
Of course when you read in entirety, what he was quoting, turns out, it was referencing tracking implantable devices. Things people already use and there was nothing nefarious. You know so if there is a recall, problem, the person that got that item can be traced and notified. These items included breast implants, pace makers, artificial hips, etc. This had absolutely nothing to do with Obamacare. But somehow they managed to take something legit, tracking implantable devices and turned that into everyone will have a tracking device. This was the kind of absurdity they were spreading to kill Obamacare before it started. Notice I said this is an ex friend. Its too exhausting to keep trying to talk sense to someone who believes in nonsense.

Not all of them will come off of the ventilators. It seems to be a variation on suicide, if you ask me. I believe everyone should be able to kill themselves if that is what they truly want.
That being said, they are putting others at risk by their reckless behavior.
Why don't they just insert a high velocity 12 gauge slug into their brains directly, thereby cutting out the middle person?
In case I have not made myself clear by this point, I wish all of these shitnozzle tRumpists to off themselves - saves me some trouble, and expense, and stench. I just wish they would take a more direct route without endangering me, and my wife, and sane Americans along the way.

We were at the HEB (the best grocery store ever) and we saw a guy with two preteen children and no mask. We asked managers about it, and I was told HEB's policy is to not confront them so as to not put employees at risk with a crazy.
The county mandated masks and has not given any enforcement power along with it.
The next county over authorized the county sheriff and constables to enforce it, one restaurant has been fined over $8,000 and then closed when the owner thought it was still a joke, he reopened with no masks on staff or customers and was shut down for the duration.

bombards Americans with manipulative and often false advertising continually. Americans are then permissive to the effects of propaganda. It doesn't take much for a political-minded individuals like Rush, organizations like Fox News, and especially social media which allows instant widespread communication and spread of rumors and misinformation to brainwash Americans with ease.

(11,949 posts)While many on the left look to Western Europe as our shining example they had traumas we cant imagine to get them to where they are now. In the last couple of generations. And as those traumas fade into memory even some of them are reverting to the human norm. Which is fearing the different and new.
Since 1789 we have done some really bad shit. But over that span of time it no worse and way better than many nations. Even some we admire now. Are there some exceptions? Of course. Not much to hate about the Nordic nations since them. But they were poor and had no colonies. Outside of them I cant name a European nation that within the past 250 year has not some really bad shit. Maybe the Netherlands and Denmark. Even Belgium created a slave state in the Congo.
People are people. I sometimes think Xenophobia is built in genetically back to the 10s of thousands of year when we evolving into modern humans and you could only truly trust a member of your group. But we have the mental capacity to overturn that. You have to want to.

(5,443 posts)does better in detecting misinformation, presumably due to an individualistic culture than more religious-oriented and possibly consensus-oriented cultures. While "people are people" as you say, there is quite a bit of variation, and culture can indeed shape susceptibility to misinformation, just not the way I initially hypothesized.
It's a hot topic, actively researched. For example, papers with evidence that children in Iran or Arab counties are more susceptible to misinformation have been published (Fadwa B. Elashi, Doaa J. Ameera, Skepticism across cultures: The ability to doubt and reject distorted claims in Jordanian and U.S. children, Cognitive Development,Volume 52, 2019) with cultures of authority and adherence to strict religious beliefs hypothesized to play key roles. Our culture is characterized as more individualistic, which helps us weed out misinformation, even as children.
It would be interesting to study if strict religious upbringing plays a similar role in our more individualistic society to inculcate susceptibility to propaganda.
So we are actually in a better position to battle misinformation than others. Unfortunately, current trends of fast-spreading misinformation aren't promising, if we are the best, we are in trouble IMHO. Perhaps skepticism training (crticial thinking) needs to be even more avidly taught in the US.
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)If you are real Super religious you are used to believing things with no evidence.
Perhaps that why Western Europe is doing a better job of fighting off this shit. They are born skeptics. Not very orthodox in anyway. And why Poland and Hungary are going repressive. They are still very religious.
If that is the case we are rapidly improving.
It is apparent. The more religious a country, the more oppressive. Not to say other ideologies cant be as repressive. Take China and Cuba as examples.
