..Her seat will be safe since gov of NM (Lujan-Grisham) is a democrat. A few days ago, when asked whether she was interested in the role in an interview with HuffPost, Haaland said "Oh yes, of course."

Rep. Deb Haaland (D-N.M.) said that she would happily take on the role of President-elect Joe Biden's secretary of the Interior if the job were offered to her, according to HuffPost.

"We've never had a Native American serve in any Cabinet position," Bryan Newland, tribal chairman of the Bay Mills Indian Community in Michigan, told HuffPost. "Rep. Haaland is more than qualified and capable of serving as secretary of interior and would be a great choice."

..liberal. Gov. Lujan-Grisham knows this district well, so if U.S. Rep.Haaland accepts cabinet position, I'm certain she'll select someone who will win in a run-off election.

I mentioned in another thread how important representation is and how only in the last 2 years we got 2 native women to Congress.

This would help in keeping the high turnout we are starting to get among native americans voting and to improve their lives.

She would be an excellent choice for Interior and would be capable of resolving some of the historical issues with how that Department deals with Native Americans.

Someone who knows n respects this great land and realizes we cannot survive all the abuse we’ve done for too long. A cabinet that reflects the country is looking like it’s gonna happen.
