Nixon said he had a secret plan to get out of Viet Nam...He had ..."no such plan"
...tens of thousands died..That war was not started by Nixon..so he lied about some "secret plan"
but, as it turns out War is War...Lets not forget ...Watergate, but that is another kind of crookedness..
...While Donald Trump was told by advisors and others what was coming he knew and did nothing..What to do was already being practiced by European allies, and all he had to do... was follow the lead, & listen to what was already done...Instead, he said..."It was a hoax", and did .."NOTHING"
..Herbert Hoover had no idea on how to deal with a ..."World Wide Depression" There had never been one of that magnitude before or since. So doing what F.D.R. did, was quite out of the ordinary, new in some ways unheard of.
..All Trump had to do was follow advisors and listen to our friends in Europe on how to prevent tens of thousands of deaths. Trump did absolutely nothing.
Not using the incredible power of the federal government to prevent huge deaths that are somewhat "preventable" is a crime against us all...It would be as if there were never any safety
precautions and procedures on airplanes for take off and landings..or whatever happens. There are definable procedures in all cases that pilots learn to save lives if this or that happens..
If looked at this way, Trump is a criminal, and needs to be treated as one..

deepest belief.. (some will oppose his being on Fox, not many but "some", after all Trump is a "killer"

(17,519 posts)He worked hard, through words and example, to keep people from using masks; the best protection we have. If a National leader had the goal of making as many people sick from a disease he couldn't have improved on Trump's actions.

(7,409 posts)That program taught us that the increase in cases is due to an increase in testing.
Although I'm still trying to figure out how a linear increase in testing can drive an exponential increase in cases.
We also got hydroxychloroquine from it.

(884 posts)That's not a reflection on Trump, it's a reflection on the overwhelming majority of Republicans, who violated their oaths of office to protect and defend the Constitution.
Trump himself, however, will go down in history as MUCH worse than Nixon, and rightly so.
The two things are related, but not the same.
and add Barr to the leading ReTHUG enablers. Nixon wasn't even impeached - he resigned for fear of being impeached.

(21,417 posts)Nixon and protect him like they are doing today with Trump. Initially they stood by him, but as evidence came in, they pulled away. When the House was writing up the articles of impeachment, Republicans urged Nixon to resign "for the good of the country" (and the party).
Nixon did not have the stranglehold on the party that Trump has. He was not an agent for a foreign government.

(199 posts)Nixon wasn't "forced" to resign. He saw what was inevitable, and made an admirable choice. Trump will never have the self awareness or integrity of Nixon.

(268,846 posts)from the entire ReTHUG party. I was watching someone on TV pointing out the global shock with the 230,000 deaths from that South-Asian tsunami in 2004. The official US death toll from Covid is over 250,000 and they are pretending this isn't happening.
This is murder by dereliction of duty and it is most foul.

(790 posts)When folks speculate about Trump eventually hosting some fabulous reality show or heading up some political non-profit, I wonder what planet they're living on. Trump willfully sat on his hands and watched Covid-19 savage the lives of 245,000 Americans, to say nothing of countless Americans left disabled, unable to work and bankrupted by enormous medical bills. There is no measurement for the enormity of suffering and grief in this country. Has Trump yet to offer any words of comfort? Trump cannot even fake a soul.
This is Trump's legacy: You dont want me jumping up and down, screaming Theres going to be great death! and really causing some very serious problems for the country. Trump watched thousands of Americans perish knowing they had inhaled SARS-CoV-2 and did nothing to warn them.

(73,524 posts)Very interesting. Trump was impeached, Nixon wasn't. Trump was incapable of doing anything good for the country, Nixon did a couple of good things, most importantly resigning.

(216 posts)On a serious note, I cannot bear the thought that Trump could be listed along with Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and FDR in any museum of American history. Does the Smithsonian have to make any reference to this dark period in our history?

As for a history museum, maybe they could put Cheeto in the Holocaust Museum. Yes, yes, I know he is not responsible for 6 million deaths, but he is likely responsible for at least half of the 250,000 coronavirus deaths to date in the US, and that's no small number of people.

(18,672 posts)Once Biden re-establishes our National Security apparatus and weeds all the Trump appointees who are trying to dig in like ticks, information is going to be leaked at just how obscenely corrupt Trump and his administration are. That, along with the sheer number of Americans who are going to end up with ongoing health issues or worse due to Trump's inaction. Dying from Covid is not going to be something people can continue to ignore or pretend doesn't exist. I hope it doesn't get is bad as it could, but if it does, hospitals are going to fill up and people will be sent home to die. We will hear of people dropping dead in public places, like what happened during the Spanish Flu. May the latter never, ever happen.

(14,489 posts)I was just thinking of this irony:
* W lied to the American people and took us to war with Iraq and Afghanistan. He and Chaney used the power of government and our tax dollars to displace or kill hundreds of thousands of foreign people. But that was half a world away. Some say that mistake cost upwards of three trillion dollars, long-term.
* Conversely, Trump refused to use the power of government to aid the American people in a global pandemic and lied to us dozens of times about its seriousness and how to deal with it. As a result, over 240,000 American lives have been lost and a proper American effort would also have save tens of thousands of others around the globe. Trump's COVID-19 negligence may well cost the American economy as much as W's wars, long-term.
Conclusion: Republicans lie, kill a lot of people and try to bankrupt our government.....

(2,578 posts)Eighteen of the caregivers in the nursing home have tested positive for CoVid, and have been sent home to quarantine. Some of the other residents of the nursing home have been sent to a facility that specializes in treating CoVid. I blame tRump and all who aided, abetted and supported him for the needless deaths and the untold suffering that has been caused. They are murderous scum, malignant piles of toxic waste. No consequence is harsh enough for the evil that they have done.

A criminal of the worst sort, a mass murderer of now over 250,000 of our citizens.
And EQUALLY GUILTY is every last damned Republican in Congress, who enabled him, said nothing, allowed children to be caged, refused to even try to remove the impeached asshole from office.
They are mass murderers all, guilty of crimes against humanity.
