Doctors Are Calling It Quits Under Stress of Pandemic
November 16, 2020 at 8:30 am EST By Taegan Goddard

The New York Times reports that, as the coronavirus surges again, thousands of medical practices are shutting down as doctors and nurses seek early retirement or jobs that don’t cause such intense stress.

The rest and lack of stress had me thinking seriously about early retirement.

But I'm not there yet. My retirement account isn't self-sustaining yet...

First day back at work; we'll see how it goes...

I know 3 teachers that packed it in.
One is the neighbor whose property backs up to ours.
All in their mid to late 50s.
Were thinking 62 until this came up.

The stress of working around Covid and being in a high risk age group was bad enough, but working around a bunch of right wing evangelicals was the final straw.

Actually, I might go back if the need for RNs becomes desperate in this area.

I wish she hadn't done that. She is under a great deal of stress right now (she is a 23 year old charge nurse on a mental health floor with over 20 patients).

Helpful family members like my mother in law were pushing her towards it. I was perfectly happy to have her continue living at home. This is on top of buying her first car.

Now she is a slave. She definitely has it better than others because she has no student debt on top of this. I wanted her to keep saving her money and getting ready to move to another state or country if necessary (or possible).

There is growing talk of a general strike in the medical community to bring attention to the the scarcity of PPE and the zero sense of urgency in wearing a mask and protecting each other.

Not a lot but she said its growing

Who has been known to purposely not wear masks or do social distancing; maybe we can send them to one place in the country and isolate them, North Dakota?

I’m quite serious

should be the last ones to receive treatment. But the question would be how would you know which ones didn't wear masks? I doubt they would be truthful about it.

retired over the summer. My husband's stepmom has some health issues and I think that combined with Covid were the final straw for him. He was a workaholic so it's been an adjustment but I think he made the right choice.

Should get better under President Biden.

I guess the "acid test" is...it's their own life they're trying to save, and if that's what they need to achieve that, who am I to say otherwise?

I just hope the numbers aren't large enough to take this whole mess one more circle inside Dante's hellscape.
