This may have been discussed, but I haven't seen it. If we are going to "shut down", let's

SHUT DOWN.

Don't just stop bars and restaurants and barbers, etc. Stop evictions and foreclosures and repos and---accrual of ANY interest.

It should not be necessary to say, but it is, that those travelling in public for reasons not absolutely necessary for their health---including food shopping---should be cited and fined an amount large enough to hurt. Those in public for the acceptable reasons MUST wear masks and socially distance or face similar fines. Serial offenders should be incarcerated.

Share the pain as equally as possible.

preparation like issuing checks to people to buy food. Mitch is clearly scorching the earth to deliver a disaster to Joe.

We had one great SECOND last chance and we are blowing it. Everyone else is shutting down. Everyone.

Anyway, people need food. People will kill for food. We need to keep the food and supply lines going. I dread the day that Amazon tells us that there are NO drivers available.

Having Amazon deliver food is very expensive. Not everyone can hunker down like that.

I think that having Joe, Kamala, and Fauci make an order for total, complete mask wearing and social distancing would be the first step. It's not a complete solution. But, it would be very helpful to have a mask standard in place, and a directive that nationwide we are all going to stick together. It won't be forever.

Joe can order what he wants, but unless there is an enforcement mechanism it means nothing. I'm in Wisconsin, we've been in this predicament for awhile and anti-maskers will always be anti-maskers and unless they can be fined, jailed, penalized or something that hurts, it is pointless. "Recommendations" mean nothing to them.

But again, it depends on the health of the store workforce, and even that might disappear as essential workforce becomes decimated.
A local Trader Joe's had an employee who was either a Trumpster or a Q head who infected two other co-workers due to a conspiracy addled certainty that s/he just had a bad cold...store is shut down for two weeks now.

It all boils down to the small group of powerful cynics - "objectivists" - amongst us who push social selfishness and profiteering as virtues throughout the media we depend on for modern life. Cynics who get their LULZ pwning the public with mis-information, because it's fun - as well as profitable to knock a desperate and increasingly suspicious population down to a more manageable number, not to mention culling out any expensive taker types.
Conspiracy theories and their attendant fear mongering are just another tool these assholes use to separate people from any sense of adult logic or even just basic species survival tools - generosity and mercy - they may still have. Sorry for the rant, but I see too many "important people" strutting around and implying we can't trust anyone, that everyone is corrupt and has their own agenda - influencers who have to drag everyone down to their own hateful level because that's where it's cool and "real".

On edit - sorry for the rant. don't mean to hijack the thread.

There are no easy answers.

First, I say that it didn't help having our "leaders" deny the usefulness of wearing masks. Then, it didn't help that Super Asshole did all those pressers declaring himself immune to the virus. I think that having our new leaders telling the public to mask up is important. Our country used to have others follow our lead. Now, we have to work to follow our own lead.

I'd like to see some new sentencing guidelines for the penalty of getting caught without a mask. Although I don't think it is enforceable, if we went that route, the penalty should be novel. Make them take a tour of some overwhelmed ICU and look at all the soon-to-be-dead people. Then they would have a few days in jail plus the thrill of looking at those people. Then, maybe remind them that perhaps they infected that person. You know, guilt the hell out of them.

But, I dunno. The Turd's plan to let the virus just wash over us didn't work, did it? Plan A: Hold on until a legitimate, effective vaccine can be manufactured and implemented. Keep helping one another. We WILL get through this.

I am so annoyed that I have to buy another face mask. My original one has a valve in it. I have been wearing TWO masks, one over the valve. People can't even understand me. Well, I don't go out very much any more. I could just wear the second mask, but I don't trust it.

So, I am having to actually study on how masks are made and what might be something good. You know those orange shamoo masks they used to advertise? Those were good, besides the ridicule factor for wearing their TM on your face. They were zinc infused, made in Germany, and I think with layers. Oh, I know, they have asynchronous layers. I wanted one of those, but didn't get it, and now they are not advertising.

The other good one was infused with copper. I think, if I remember right, zinc and copper are used in N95 masks. I should know this, but I am forgetting for now.

So, style and efficiency...best dressed person walking around. I hope. Well, I'll settle for wearing a mask. Oh, and clothes, of course.
