Stanford University statement on Scott Atlas - it's not an endorsement

Stanford University @Stanford

The university has been asked to comment on recent statements made by @ScottWAtlas, a senior fellow at the @HooverInst who is on leave of absence from that position. 1/3

Stanford’s position on managing the pandemic in our community is clear. We support using masks, social distancing, and conducting surveillance and diagnostic testing. We also believe in the importance of strictly following the guidance of local and state health authorities. 2/3

Stanford University @Stanford

Dr. Atlas has expressed views that are inconsistent with the university’s approach in response to the pandemic. Dr. Atlas’s statements reflect his personal views, not those of the Hoover Institution or the university. 3/3

This clown should never hold *any* position in academia ever again.

University, the Hoover Institution has got nothing to do with Stanford's medical school/hospital. Or their biomedical research entities, for that matter. In fact, any reference to Dr Atlas as a doctor is giving his statements a weight of authority they do not deserve.

Even though Stanford and the Hoover Institute disclaim the connection, the connection is informative even apart from this guy's involvement with Trump -- everyone should view Dr Atlas's advice/comments as policy pronouncements from a politico, not public health advice from a doctor.

I feel like that is obvious to people on DU, but it seems worth mentioning anyway.

It was the fact that he was encouraging violence against Michigan's governor in response to health measures in that state.
