I'm grateful for the mainstream media.
Does anyone on DU agree with me?
Consider in terms of "the long arc of history," the MSM has a notion of itself, along with making lots of money (exception, PBS and NPR) as a purveyor of facts. They do try to hold themselves to that standard, acknowledging (usually) when they make flat out errors.
They learned some things over the last four years. It took a while, but they began to call Trump's lies, lies. They resisted turning the Hunter Biden "story" into another "both and" e-mail debacle.
I'm am grateful that I can turn to the New York Times, The WAPO, PBS and NPR to sort out fact from fiction. I do believe them, as a rule, and trust them to own up if they screw up. I'm so very grateful to them now as never before. I'm grateful to the founding parents to have given them a position right next to the 3 branches of government.
I strenuously hope, but have not found out for sure yet, that our news organizations are way more vital now than they were in the leadup to Hitler's takeover of Germany. Because there are just way too many parallels.
I applaud their principle of presenting both sides of the political spectrum, while more and more avoiding the pitfalls of both siderism in their actual news reporting. That reminds us that a single party system would be the downfall of our democracy.
