(36,294 posts)I'm unaware of a single progressive who became a Trump supporter because of watching Fox News or by being on Facebook.

(7,412 posts)But the OP is on point. Fox News is an external amplifier of that vulgar inner voice some have.

(6,847 posts)I remember a documentary by a journalist whose father's personality took a 180 after he started with Fox News. And I know I've also heard other stories. Isolated, yes. And in most cases if not all there were also other factors, such as dementia. But it has happened, and those situations are the saddest of all.
Personally, I'm a 75 year old progressive white woman who would not go near Facebook or Fox News if you paid me, but I do like my video games.

(36,294 posts)People want to read, watch or listen to that which reinforces their already formed world view. Fox news tapped into a market that was already there and as long as they put out the news in such a way that their audience agreed with, they kept that audience. Now Fox has gotten a reputation as being anti-Trump and viewers are leaving for other networks which are decidedly pro-Trump such as OAN and NewsMax.
I daresay that most everyone of us DUers could watch OAN, NewsMax or even Fox everyday for months and we would not be turned into Trump supporters because we are not receptive to what those outfits put out.
Many DUers use Facebook, including myself, and the same thing applies.

So no it does't change our minds it entrenches the feeling that we are at risk.

(7,537 posts)This was wholly a result of FOX News and conservative talk radio. I took several years and sending him to a public university to remedy the situation.
