Our Ned, good Dem governor, was interviewed on Morning Joe and was asked if he could get the state ready quickly to store/disseminate the new drugs soon available on the coronavirus. He replied that we in CT have such a huge Rainy Day Fund that we can start quickly to get the proper storage and the logistics for getting the shots to the people to receive them.
Well, folks, I guess that shuts up the Trumpies here in CT who were crying bitter tears about the funds going into that Rainy Day Fund. Taxpayers hard earned money!
Not a word from Trumpie next door on Facebook. I guess he realized that the Dem. governor of our state is gonna save his white ass.
I say nothing here. Res ipsa loquitur.

(22,034 posts)I've always been particularly disturbed by the lack of respect shown by violations of (d) below. Remember in 1972 when the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team had the Stars and Stripes on their swimsuits? (Also, see (j) below.) That was as bad as the MAGAs dressing up in the flag for political rallies.
(g) is violated by the thin blue line flag supposedly supporting law enforcement and the Trump campaign (of course).
When my son was in Boy Scouts, I was one of the Troop leaders and we would have an annual retiring of the flag event. The old flag would be burned in a campfire. The next day, we'd sift through the ashes for the grommets which we would then bury. As the Code states in (j), "The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing."
Alas, the Supreme Court basically nullified the Flag Code when they ruled that burning the flag was protected speech under the First Amendment.
=================
4 U.S. Code §8 - Respect for flag
No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.
(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
(b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
(c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speakers desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
(e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
(f) The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.
(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
(h) The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

(36,460 posts)Although I do think burning a flag in protest is not the same as wearing flag underwear or using flag napkins. And I hate the current trend of politiciansboth sidesputting a row of flags on the stage & often times they are noticeably pinned to each other. We've let marketers turn a symbol of our country into a display of empty patriotism.

(3,166 posts)And maybe even on here as well, I can't really remember.
To me, it is disrespectful to wear shirts or pants that have stars and stripes on them, like a lot of the MAGAs have. Flag bandanas, socks, and even face masks fall into that category as well. I was told multiple times that "those aren't flags - they are PICTURES of flags or representations of flags, not flags themselves."

I have never seen more disrespect for our flag. Yes it represents our victories AND failings yet it is a symbol of us continuing to try to"make a more perfect union". I have always respected our flag even when our flag was dragged through the mud when it represented white supremacy, racism and extra judicial murder of melanin enhanced Americans and more recently Stephen Miller's immigration policies which included the kidnapping and caging of children. I have never been more ashamed of my country. And the fascists claim they were doing it in our name.
I believe OUR flag means we must keep the fascists at bay and as Democrats continue to believe in the good our country can do IF WE DEMAND IT. We still count as viable members striving for good. I think at least 79million voters meant that by their and I know for sure, my vote.

(1,406 posts)Those Blue Line Flags are desecration and COPS don't like it when you tell them.
To me, Cops looked at the American Flag and said that one is not good enough for US.
We will make our own flag. What they are showing is that they are a Country within a Country.
Just like Johnnie Reb.

...at the micro level, meaning amongst friends, families, and neighbors. In fact, I might even say that liberals are just as likely to be good people in this respect and bad people in this respect.
The evil of the trumpanzees is in their disregard for anyone not a friend, family, or neighbor. So, trumpers are terrible people at the macro level.
