Its far too early to know if there is any connection, but this is one hell of a coincidence...
The victims in a weekend shooting at a central El Paso home have been identified, both were lawyers who worked for the Texas Attorney General's Office. Georgette Kaufman was shot and killed, while her husband 47-year-old Daniel Kaufman remained hospitalized Tuesday in stable condition but was expected to recover.

A police spokesman said an arrest had not yet been made and authorities were continuing to look for "somebody that is outstanding."

That is horrific and tragic news, but it becomes perplexing in light of yesterdays news out of Texas.
The FBI is investigating Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Associated Press reported Tuesday evening, vetting allegations made by eight of Paxtons former top aides that he illegally used the power of his office to benefit a political donor. Two unnamed sources told the AP that the bureau was examining claims made by the whistleblowers that Paxton broke the law by intervening several times in legal matters involving Nate Paul, a real estate investor and friend who donated $25,000 to Paxtons campaign in 2018. On Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, eight aides in total told authorities that they believed Paxton had committed crimes as part of his relationship with Paul, citing bribery and abuse of office. Since then, four aides have been fired, three have resigned, and one has been placed on leave sparking a whistleblower lawsuit.

Paxton has been under indictment for more than five years on securities fraud charges but has yet to stand trial. He has dismissed the charges as politically motivated and entered a not guilty plea.

(1,648 posts)Offices and/or commit crimes! The usual and outdated old way of exposing, investigating, arresting, prosecuting, and impeachment for the abuse of the office they hold does not work anymore in this day and age. Most of these laws were written back in a time where it took several days to cover vast territory for news and information to travel, which is no longer the case and instantaneously now.
Simply put, the entire system is being gamed and exploited mostly by the Republican Party, because there are no real consequences to their corrupt and criminal behavior. There needs to be a system in place where whistle blower charges are viewed by a group of non-partisan judges and if evidence supports their removal for a trial, than that elected office holder will be removed and barred from any contact with the office until a final verdict is decided in their trial. This country needs to wake the hell up, because the entire system is being gamed by a criminal organization known as the Republican Party on all fronts across the country.
