MEMPHIS, Tenn. — There are plenty of places to live outside of the world’s biggest and sometimes most overpopulated cities. Luckily, it seems like several towns and smaller metropolises are vying for the attention of those willing to make a move. Now, yet another place joins the ranks of those offering to pay you big bucks to pick up and move there: Northwest Arkansas.

The newly announced Life Works Here initiative is attracting new residents to Northwest Arkansas by offering them $10,000 to move there. They’re also throwing in a street or mountain bike with the deal, allowing new residents to easily explore the area’s 162 miles of paved trails and 322 miles of mountain biking trails. If biking is not your thing, you can opt for an annual membership to one of the local cultural institutions instead, like the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

Northwest Arkansas is already rated as one of the best places to live in the U.S. thanks to its low cost of living, outdoor activities, world-class arts institutions, and a per-capita income that’s 14% higher than the national average. Now, it's ready to share those perks with more people, especially the nation’s top talent, as well as remote workers.

I don't know who rated it, the rationale is in the link. Some stuff about low cost of living and bike paths.

I spent some time there camping and it was nice (in the 70s) other than a really bad case of poison ivy.

Current problem with an outfit called Slate Ridge.

[link:https://www.vpr.org/post/everyones-so-afraid-daniel-banyai-vtdigger-editor-slate-ridge-investigation#stream/0|

Its a militia training site in a beautiful area called West Pawlet, Vermont

The locals have been complaining about the activities including lots of firearm practice, even during the night. And they are getting intimidation and threats, etc. It’s a mess. The locals have complained for years with little recourse until something bad actually happens. The cops are fully aware, as is the FBI, etc. They are monitoring but feel they can’t currently do anything. Meanwhile, it is well known that they have a massive stockpile of weapons and ammo. Poor Gov Phil Scott is doing his best but they are really powerless until something actually happens.

I live in NY-21 and sometimes read in our local news sites about the situation across the Lake from us. I thank my lucky stars we don’t have that problem in our area at the moment. We have lots of poverty and plenty of trump humpers, but I am not aware of any organized militia groups congregated anywhere.

Internet is actually pretty good if you live in "town" -- Wal-Mart probably has more IT workers in the area than you can count.

Its definitely a company town however, between Walmart, their various philanthropy's and side ventures, Tyson, etc. Excellent schools in certain areas.

It seems that all our beautiful rural areas in the country are either so expensive only the really rich can afford them (celebs, authors, etc) or really poor and super Trump humper red.

Here in NY-21, outside of the many college towns, it’s really red. But the scenery is gorgeous and you have the St Lawrence River with incredible fishing and castles to visit. Breath-taking Adirondacks and Lake Champlain.

We just enjoy the area and when we want a dose of Blue politics, we log on to the internet and visit DU!!

Tomorrow I close on the sale of my renovated 1858

house in NWA. I moved here in 1991 and the love I had for both Fayetteville and Arkansas disappeared last year.
The laid back town is now crowded and developers rule. Whole quaint little neighborhoods have been razed to build more apartment complexes or to expand the university. Historical properties included.
There are hundreds of miles of bike trails and the Walton (Walmart) family gets to decide what happens.

Yes there are blue areas in the state, and artist colonies and some funky and fun places. One of the best art museums in the country is Crystal Bridges in Bentonville. Free admission and worth a trip just to see it.

I used to imagine the state as Hooterville, but a business trip brought me there and I dragged my husband back years later as a tourist. Don’t knock it till you’ve visited Eureka Springs.

Remote workers given incentives to relocate in Tucson
By Jasmine Ramirez | November 18, 2020 at 5:18 PM MST - Updated November 18 at 7:26 PM

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A new program, led by Startup Tucson, is hoping to attract remote workers to Tucson and increase the city’s economic development.

“This is a great way to offer some perks and benefits to young professionals that are looking to work somewhere else physically than where their workplace is,” said Zach Yentzer, the executive director of Tucson Young Professionals.

Startup Tucson’s pilot program, Remote Tucson, is accepting remote workers from any industry. Each will receive money to relocate, free internet, housing support and other incentives that are worth more than $7,500 in total.
