House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) on Thursday said President Trump's efforts to persuade Republican officials to reverse election results in key battleground states borders on treason.
He is undermining the very essence of democracy, which is: You go to the poll, you vote and the people decide, Hoyer told The Washington Post. Theres no doubt that the people decided.
I think this borders on treason, the Maryland Democrat added.

At the very least, congress should document all this and censure him. Get it in the history books. Plus it reenforces this if we still have to deal with him in 2024.

3/4 of the states would need to approve it. Small states would never surrender their outsized Power.

(11,561 posts)Signatories agree to award all of their electoral votes to the popular vote winner. This will be easier to accomplish than a constitutional amendment, especially with so many Republican state legislatures.

(14,305 posts)that I think well still be officially on the EC for the foreseeable future. The NPVIC will chip away at the ECs influence, but we will have to flip more red state legislatures, which will be a heavy lift.
Another way out of this morass: statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico, both likely blue states. Four more Senators for us and a few more EC votes.

(2,541 posts)The Dems need to be getting this message out everyday all day. I do not understand their silence over the past weeks at all. Now Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff... the Biden team.
This placating of DT's feeling or whatever is the reason for the silence needs to end. The lady at the GSA needs to be compelled to do her job so the transition team can get started. More and more people are dying daily from COVID this is what the government needs to be focusing on. Not this peoples court soap opera because one man does not like how the voters voted.

(42,770 posts)strategy. Hopefully keeping out of it shines a light solely on Covid-45. May be working. Recent Ipsos polls show trump approval in upper 30s since election. Almost as low at 11-2017.
On the other hand, agree, so frustrating not doing anything to stop him. Maybe they're getting rid of pending legal cases and waiting for all certs? Not sure when that will end.

(2,065 posts)When you come to think of it, our constitutional democracy, our democratic system of government in which the people choose their leaders, is what defines us as a nation - it's what we are most known and admired for, and the main positive thing we have to give to the world. And so, if Trump is trying to subvert a free and fair election, which was one of the most secure in American history, he is effectively pitting himself against the United States as its enemy.
