Hoyer on Trump election challenges: 'I think this borders on treason'

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) on Thursday said President Trump's efforts to persuade Republican officials to reverse election results in key battleground states “borders on treason.”

“He is undermining the very essence of democracy, which is: You go to the poll, you vote and the people decide,” Hoyer told The Washington Post. “There’s no doubt that the people decided.”

“I think this borders on treason,” the Maryland Democrat added.

Signatories agree to award all of their electoral votes to the popular vote winner. This will be easier to accomplish than a constitutional amendment, especially with so many Republican state legislatures.

Another way out of this morass: statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico, both likely blue states. Four more Senators for us and a few more EC votes.

When you come to think of it, our constitutional democracy, our democratic system of government in which the people choose their leaders, is what defines us as a nation - it's what we are most known and admired for, and the main positive thing we have to give to the world. And so, if Trump is trying to subvert a free and fair election, which was one of the most secure in American history, he is effectively pitting himself against the United States as its enemy.
