Lots of empty chairs and space. And masks!
Of course, it's only Friday.
Let's see what it looks like on Tuesday & Wednesday.

In order to get the economy back, we are going to have to use science. Masks work when people can’t social distance, or on flights (New Zealand requires masks on all domestic flights). Family get togethers though are problematic, people will remove masks to eat and drink near other people, in confined spaces where air turnover (partially used air being replaced by 100% fresh air) is very low.

I believe the way forward is to implement mask wearing and teach people how to properly wear masks. If the bridge of the nose is showing or the chin is showing, the mask is not as effective as it can be, because air sweeps through the gaps created by wearing masks that way. We also need to standardize mask wearing, the most effective masks for me seem to be the ones with multi-layer, tight weave cloth and a nose wire. My face is small, so I need medium-small masks, I found that out the hard way after I mistakenly bought large masks (the nose wire is less effective and part of the mask fails to contour to my face).

We agree on that too.
As to the family gatherings, another factor is that drinking & talking softly are not likely partners.
So, people get beered or wined up, with masks off, start talking louder, moving more droplets, & boom.
I had a school desperately needing a science sub, the last 11 days.
I took a math class one day to test the waters.
Principal told me that not only had the right to correct incorrect mask behavior, but was happy I was willing to play watchdog.
Over the last 2 weeks, all I had to do, when I saw a mask slipping was look, point at my nose, and issue resolved.
They have had ZERO cases at that school, and they went in person the Monday after labor day.
The teachers move from room to room, not the kids, so hallways stay pretty sparse.
They even let in & out by homeroom to keep hallways that way.
As extra precaution, when the kids are doing assignments on laptop, I stand a couple feet out in the hall. Once less person in the room. (Except one sixth grade class where a lot of help is needed, so I try to stay in the room but at as much distance as possible.)

Thanks for you work in schools. I am inpatient, I would have a hard time working with a group of people where everyone is not laser focused on tasks at hand. It must feel like you are herding cats sometime?

US passed 200k cases today. Looks like thanksgiving is going to be wide spread super spreading events. Might be sad Xmas for a lot of people.

per day we’re getting infected. At 400,000 infections a day, the ultimate number of dead per day will approach 10,000. Our hospitals must be nearing saturation even now.

They don't wear the garden variety mask. Also, they probably don't wear them for hours at a time. They can take a break and go outside and breath. Hard to do that on a plane.

If I was sitting and just reading, I could wear it for two days straight.
