And for four years I've been told by people who I once considered friends, by people who I work with, by internet trolls and commentators, by talk radio hosts and TV news programs, that Trump won the 2016 election and Hillary lost and that we should get over it.
Four years I've watched Trump destroy and divide the country and that we need to "unite behind the president". That I'm not patriotic enough because I don't buy into American symbolism like eagles in front of flags covered in blood. I'm tired of seeing people whose mission in life is to "own the libs" or to "make liberals cry" and "make liberals cry again". And say things like we're "snowflakes" who need "safe spaces" and that "there's no such thing as a safe space in the real world". If that's your prerogative for voting, then you're a shower curtain and a distorted violin away from going full on Norman Bates psycho.
I'm tired of seeing gun nuts buy up guns and ammo as if it's going out of style and they need any excuse to use their kill toys on something or someone. I'm tired of watching mass shooting after mass shooting and then gun nuts denying that this ever happened and then go out and buy more guns as an insult. I've even had violence in my own damn backyard because Trump supporters couldn't leave a Black Lives Matter rally alone. They had to go insult and provoke, and it ended about as badly as you would expect.
In the last four years, I've watched Trump and the Fox News cult destroy more minds and flip people to the side of batshit fucking crazy than any amount of cocaine, meth, or LSD ever would or could. I've seen people who were once considered mild mannered, smart, sane rational people, become dark, abusive, conspiracy theory loving, gun toting maniacs almost overnight. I've seen conspiracy theories devolve into even crazier conspiracy theories. We had Benghazi. That morphed into Hillary's e-mails. That morphed into Pizzagate. That morphed into what we know now as Q Anon. We used to laugh at people who would talk about things like alien DNA and demon sex. Now they are in the White House making policy.
I'm tired of the denial from right wingers about major events like they never happened. For me, Sandy Hook was the tipping point to America's embrace of the dark side and all the hate and harassment those poor people have had to endure at the likes of podcast shock jocks like Alex Jones, Joe Rogan, and Ben Shapiro. And that we've had to endure as well. If you listen to these assholes and believe what they say, you're part of the problem. You're not "draining the swamp", you are the swamp.
No more. I'm fucking done with this shit. If you support this, you are the enemy of all that is good and decent in this world. You've berated and destroyed us for the last four years. It's time to fight back against this bullshit. Joe Biden won the presidency. It's done, and Trump's attempt to further divide us over the election that he "won" is absolutely insane and it should not be tolerated.
And here's the thing, MAGAs. Your precious dear leader doesn't give a fuck about you! He doesn't care if you die for the MAGA cause. He won't show up at your funeral. He won't even show up at your funeral on a Zoom call. You might get a shout out in one of his tweets but that's about it, and that's if you're lucky. All he cares about is his precious TV ratings and stadiums full of admiring fans shouting "lock her up", and the huge number of likes he gets on his tweets.
You're just a number to him. You're useful idiots to him. When he no longer needs you, he will cast you aside like yesterday's newspaper. And since the election, that seems like that has been happening. So while you're out "making liberals cry", it is you who will ultimately be crying in the end because you got conned. Because while we are ready to embrace a president who cares about us, a president who will acknowledge science and technology and listen to experts, and not a CEO of a fucking pillow manufacturing company, you will be left behind because you got suckered into this mess. When you hang out with a con artist, don't be surprised when you get conned.

(14,891 posts)Heard former SecDef William Cohen say on CNN that he hopes the media totally ignore Trump after Jan. 20, 2021. Perfect remedy for what ails the USA.

(804 posts)It is going to take longer than 4 years to repair all the damage this con artist and his enablers have done. I am so tired of the stress of waking up each day and wondering what this moron has done now. The day Joe Biden was finally called the winner in this election was the first day in years I felt stress free. All those people dancing in the streets all over this country were expressing spontaneous joy that the dictator wannabe has been overthrown. I cannot wait until January 20th.

(13,776 posts)The dancing in the streets across the country was CLEANSING.
I think that once his Twitter account is suspended (or once he quits being such a liar on Twitter out of fear of having it suspended), he will lose a lot of his influence over the simple-minded, and the visible return to sanity and calm in the White House will be a breath of fresh air that lots of people will welcome. Of course there will still be Proud Boys and Promise Keepers and other self-pitying-white-men groups making a stink, but a return to close-to-normal civic life is just around the corner. I hope.

(100,065 posts)And Joe won't rebuild the country in a day or even four years but he can definitely get the smell of stupid out of the room! And it's going to take a lot of fumigation for that!

(24,367 posts)That's it. Another 60 days of this nightmare.
The only problem is of course, at that point we start waking up to the true terror of what he has done but kept hidden.

(8,040 posts)I wonder if we'll EVER get over the PTSD brought on by this abusive psychopath.
Robert De Niro has been wonderful when speaking about him because he's been able to put his outrage into words that have actually helped me. A year or two ago he said it's like we're all in an abusive/domestic violence type relationship and we can't get out.
I've lost what used to be a very good friend to the QAnon Cult and I don't know if we'll ever be able to speak again. Her 40 year old daughter has called me in tears because she's lost her mother to a cult. It's one thing to lose a friend but another to lose your mom.
I swear to God I never knew one person could wreak such havoc in this country. I can now say I understand how Hitler happened. As I've watched 70 Million of my fellow citizens worship this evil monster, it makes me realize that a significant number of human beings are not at their core good and decent people.

(12,212 posts)I couldn't stand to see it in the news, so I looked up U.S. presidents on Wikipedia, and saw a goofy looking Trump listed as #45.
I believe the photo on Wikipedia was changed later to something more "presidential."
Then the 2 hours of sleep that night.

Couple of points I'd like to make:
1. The craziness and irrationality has grown exponentially since the internet decided around 2001 that 'user-created content' was the cheapest and quickest way to provide content to a content-hungry audience.
2. The right-wing are embracing and mutating the theory of 'Survival of the Fittest'. In their terms, these days it means that to scam, to cheat, to lie, to deceive, to trick, to bamboozle - to act dishonestly in pursuit of their goal, is perfectly OK because that is the ultimate act of survival. This is Bannon's philosophy - he thinks he is a mental cut above the rest of us and I hate him for this.
