I believe most were well into their 30's/40's before they stepped out from their shell-shocked youth.
If ever.

JFK, MLK, RFK, Vietnam Draft, ...this was how a particular generation's coming of age was greeted.

The assassination of President Kennedy is as emotionally vivid today, as then.
