If it goes to the supreme court then what?

If it makes it there and his appointees, Thomas and Alito install him as president... then what? What happens then? I know people are going to reply that it won't happen. But I'm sorry there are countless things that weren't going to happen. Honestly what do we do then?

I do. And at that point we are down to whether or not they decide to take it. People say they will look like fools if they take it. It won't matter anymore if they look like fools doing it because the country as we have known it will be done. This was the reason to install over 200 federal judges and to steal the supreme court. All of this hinges on norms and the idea that the SC won't take the case.

I am not heartened by that. So yeah as an exercise what happens if they take the case and install him? Is it going to hurt anyone to think about that?

1. If they do, the Supreme Court is unlikely to hear the case.

2. If they appeal the PA case to the Supreme Court, even if the Supreme Court rules in their favor, which isn't likely to happen, it doesn't mean dick. It just kicks it back down to the original court where they're allowed to proceed with EVIDENCE. The Supreme Court can't, on the current litigation, decide the lawsuit. The only thing they can decide is whether Trump's lawyers can submit actual evidence of their claim.

Look, it's clear you're going to get up for fear porn. I am not. I am not going to waste my time questioning something that isn't going to happen.

It's funny: there's literally no difference between the far-right and the far-left and their extremes on this. Both believe the Supreme Court will rule in Trump's favor and hand the election to Trump. Both are delusional.

2. They are stalling to find or manufacture evidence right now.

Fear porn? No. Not at all. I'm interested in a discussion regarding what happens if the unthinkable happens. Because it sure seems like the entirety of the republican party is very interested in overturning this election. If you don't want to waste your time there is an option to trash the thread. It isn't hard but it seems that you do want to spend your time commenting.

What specifically compels you to think the next higher appellate courts (way before the USSC) will not do the same? It won't hurt anyone to think about that, right?

That means that America has become a dictatorship. That means that there really isn't a reason for a federal senate, a federal supreme court, a federal house of representatives, or a reason to vote anymore. If we live in a dictatorship, the strong man calls all the shots. Our entire system of Democracy is based on the idea that people have the right to choose their leaders. We have. Any sane person with more than two brain cells in their head knows that to be a fact.

I’ve seen SO much over the last four years that wasn’t SUPPOSED to happen. Then the surprised looks when it did.

I’m tired of surprised looks. I want action. If the Dems can see this coming, I refuse to believe there’s nothing someone can do.

I barely survived this term with the orange asshole. I won’t survive a term of any length with him as a full fledged dictator. I’m not the only one.

But the answer to the question you asked is that nothing will be done. There may be some skirmishes and some violence, but if it comes down to that, Trumpers will win. Because they can kill someone over nothing. Dems still have a conscience to live with.

Since you seem to have given this scenario some thought you may also have considered some options to respond.

At the core, there are two possibilities. The first is simply to accept it and have four more years of the same circus. With that precedence, the 2024 election is irrelevant as the PTB can simply install whoever they choose to the office.

The other choice is to not accept it. That opens a whole range of possibilities from having two competing Presidents to passive opposition to more active measures.

In either case, large numbers of people will be operating outside of any Constitutional framework. The last example of such a situation led to much bloodshed, although it is not a given that history will repeat itself.

IMHO it will spark a civil war. Whether it will be a cold war or a shooting war I don't know, but rifts will widen. I think our current allies around the world will not recognize Trump's coup as a legitimate government and the US will become increasingly isolated. The secession movement in California and possibly other states will get a boost. And that's me being optimistic.

end democracy, end the legitimacy of their own institution, and plunge us into complete societal breakdown.

I hope and believe that Justice Roberts would put it to them in these apocalyptic terms, and at least one of them would refuse to go along with it.

I believe that Roberts actually cares about his legacy and the court's legitimacy enough to really fight against such a thing.

If the court rules to end the United States, then all bets are off.
