Steyer announced in October 2012 that he would be stepping down from his position at Farallon in order to focus on political activism, in particular on advocating for alternative energy.[16] He cited his desire to focus on giving back "full time" and to revolve his life around service. In an interview he said, "I've tried to organize a business voice for what I call advanced energy....I think I'm going to be focused on how to, is there a way to move the needle in some way having to do with thought or policy. And I don't know what shape that's going to take.”

It was reported in January 2013 that Steyer might be named as a replacement for Energy Secretary Steven Chu or that he might run for Dianne Feinst (Wiki)

I don’t know how he stacks up compared to others that might be potential candidates though.

I am not saying he shouldn’t be in the cabinet, I just don’t think he should get a spot just for being a guy that is doing good activism work. If he is qualified for a job then he should by all means be considered.

he pretty much disappeared after the primaries? And what position might he be especially qualified for, since he's never even worked in government at all?

He was so involved with getting Trump impeached that I forgot about his efforts on behalf of the climate and environment.

I agree with you that he is one of the most unsung heroes.

I also agree that he doesn't get enough respect, especially since he is the one who arguably got the ball rolling on impeaching Trump, or at least he was the first one to spend millions of dollars of his own money with some great TV commercials that encouraged impeachment long before anyone else had the guts to do it.

They are probably both better used on specific ad hoc projects and key committees.
