Hey, Game of Thrones Fans: We're witnessing Varys' riddle about power in real time.

I know. I know. Yes. It's another Game of Thrones thread, but hear me out.

In the books and the show, a character named Varys posed a riddle to Tyrion. It went like this:

A King, a priest, a rich man and a sellsword are in a room. Those three man tell the sellsword to kill the other two.
Who lives and who dies?

Varys provides the answer:

"Some say knowledge is power. Some tell us that all power comes from the gods. Others say it derives from law. Yet that day on the steps of Baelor's Sept, our godly High Septon and the lawful Queen Regent and your ever so knowledgeable servant were as powerless as any cobbler or cooper in the crowd. Who truly killed Eddard Stark do you think? Joffrey, who gave the command? Ser Ilyn Payne, who swung the sword? Or ... another?"

Power resides where men believe it resides. It's a trick. A shadow on the wall.

Since election night, Trump has desperately tried to convince us that he has power when we all know that he did not. Sure, he was able to convince his base and Republicans in congress to hold their tongues, but he had no power. And as the weeks have gone on, we've seen his power diminshed every day.

This is why he cannot command Secretaries of State for GA, PA, and MI or state legislators (the sellswords) to metaphorically kill Biden's presidency. They haven't and they wont. Americans believe that Trump has no longer has power.

Trump's shadow is dwindling.

I've said it before that if you act afraid of a cowardly bully like drumpf you only empower him.

Varys was the smartest of them all and probably the most decent, although that wasn't saying much. 😉

wanted, a long protracted court battle. Doing that would have meant that Biden and Trump have an equal claim to the throne...er ah..presidency. That would have given Trump power that he did not have and weakened Biden's.
