at a local bar and grill my wife and I have often visited in the past. It's closed, like all bars and restaurants are in Minnesota right now. So, they're putting together heat-and-eat Turkey day dinners at very reasonable prices. We've been ordering take-out meals from them all along to help the place survive.
We ordered the dinner over a week ago and our pick-up appointment is at 1 PM.
It will be just my wife and I and our dogs and cats. We're going nowhere, except to pick up the food, and I'll be masked and gloved for that.
Damn you, Donald Trump, for allowing things to come to this!

(26,064 posts)I'll keep half of it for me and my GF (and the kitties), and will then take the other half a few miles away to my parents. I can ride my bike to their house in 15 minutes, but we will all be celebrating separately because of this thing.
The GF and I are putting up the tree tomorrow and watching goofy, fun Xmas movies on Netflix.

(4,986 posts)It's from a small market that has a cafe attached. I'm getting two - one for today and one for tomorrow. I live alone and will continue to be isolated tomorrow, not joining my usual group of friends for the holiday. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and it won't seem like a holiday at all....

(26,257 posts)I'll have my extra cheesy, pepperoni intense pizza. My niece is dropping off some left over turkey, on Friday. I'm already craving turkey tetrazzini.

(1,262 posts)We fortunate in that there is a local food co-op who does this. It's rare to find vegan heat-and-eat Turkey day dinners.

(13,035 posts)I look forward to it, but also keeping in my thoughts all the families suffering at this time due to covid, and all our military families with loved ones stationed abroad/away from home. Donated to the Central TX Food Bank earlier this week. If anyone can help please do.

(52,155 posts)and will be cooking it tomorrow. I usually go to a friend's house but not this time. My sister in law is getting surgery just before Christmas or else I would likely not be going up to see my brother in Dec. It is appalling that we are in this position while countries that are considerably less well off than ours are running as almost normal.

(54,334 posts)On the train, if I'm lucky, they'll have some frozen freeze-dried breakfast pasta and some replica of English Breakfast tea. Their bottle orange juice is too awful for consumption. It's a five and a half hour trip. Then 5 hours of work in München ("Munich" ), and then the same route back home.
Hot take-out sounds pretty good to me, though the traditional fare, shared with family and friends, would sound even better.

(11,258 posts)I miss it very much. Looking Back I could have ordered more. I never expected it would ever close. 47% of our village storefronts are vacant? Yes this should be over, many Republican Governors are as much to blame. The party of business I think not.

(14,918 posts)so I got one and put it in my freezer for another day (maybe Christmas). I am feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment and didn't want the fuss of wrestling with a turkey tomorrow, especially since I will be eating alone. Instead, I am picking up an order of smoked turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and baked apples (from a local place called Bar-b-cutie) to heat up tomorrow. I have sweet potatoes and other veggies on hand for more side dishes, and will also have cranberry relish. I will clear off all the junk that has been accumulating on my dining room table and will make a nice autumn centerpiece. I plan on making a list of gratitudes and will approach the day with a thankful heart, because in spite of the rough year on top of the catastrophic Trump presidency, I am still here and have not lost anyone close. I am usually with family and or friends on holidays and will certainly feel that absence but will connect with them by phone or online tonight and tomorrow. I feel that relief is in sight with a vaccine and a new presidency. My best friend and I are going to sing a Thanksgiving hymn together over the phone, with special meaning in its line "the wicked oppressing now cease from distressing." I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving. If it is a tough day alone for any of you, know that there will always be some humor, camaraderie, and empathy here on DU!

(4,613 posts)the next town over is offering individual dinners for p/u during the day on Thursday. No reservation time required, so I'll just go over there and get that. Only me and the cat, and she doesn't give a damn about turkey or Thanksgiving.

(29,644 posts)Comes with all the fixings, BUT NOT THE TURKEY MEAT!!!!! I failed to notice when ordering it that the turkey and dessert pies were sold separately. We picked up our dinner yesterday to avoid the rush of today, and now, my husband has to go back pay an additional 25.00 for two lbs of turkey meat. I just cant tell ya how much the dinner cost without the turkey, Im so embarrassed. But we will have lots of food, and even enough to give to our neighbors who we know could use some delish leftovers. Everything does look wonderful, but wow......very expensive. 😳 😳 😳

(5,165 posts)Minnesota!, in years past for me, your state has always been a great visit while traveling through on business. I even met Mr. Clean at the MOA.!
I have also admired the chorals held there in years past as well. Even at the MSP airport I have seen brilliant performers.
Covid is raging where I am. (TN) Yesterday, on my errands for mail and something for my dinner for one holiday dinner, I wore a full PPE, mask, goggles, shield, gloves. Today I will do a pickup for some extra cat food since I have also been feeding a stray.

(10,167 posts)Several local restaurants offered dinners, so we thought what the heck. Take a year off from cooking that huge meal. I am adding some sides that we love (special yams, our coleslaw, and a corn casserole), but the dinner we're getting comes with almost everything including two different types of pie.
This supper club offered 300 dinners that could be reserved. They sold out yesterday! There are at least 6 other places in our town doing this too, and as the head chef in the family I approve!

(146,284 posts)Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, cranberry relish, and gravy. Easy to heat up, too. 25 minutes for everything at 350 degrees, and 3 minutes in the nuker for the gravy. Yum! Feeds 2-4 for just $40. Not bad.

PROS: Plenty of excellent leftovers that can be frozen.
CONS: Missing out on time spent with an elderly parent who lives 700 miles away, which of course limits those opportunities to begin with.

(10,828 posts)Pre-prepared and ready to heat up tomorrow. I'm making a pan of stuffing and doing veggies. Also picked up an apple pie and ice cream to finish off the meal. For hubby and me and our pooch only.
We'll be calling family and friends, of course. But the holiday has been basically ruined.
Thanks, Trump!

(58,785 posts)the only privation is missing family. If it were only me, it'd probably be favorite munchies or Chinese with a vodka highball and a good book, or something hardly more ambitious, but I do have a husband.
So I'll be cooking a mini-Thanksgiving dinner for the two of us with a turkey breast. If the drippings are good, I'll make gravy, but minus giblets and my secret ingredient of whisking in some of my "famous" bread stuffing. If not, I picked up a jar of Heinz that can be perked up. Instead of stuffing a bird, I'll do a pan of the easy but yummy sausage dressing I usually make for some winter-spring meal. Eggnog, brussels sprouts, canned cranberry sauce which I think is actually excellent (instead of half a favorite recipe that'd take us at least a week to eat down), DH's favorite rum cake.
Hard times.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

We will have stuffing, cranberries, yams, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole and pie.
There will be enough leftovers for the rest of the week!
No family. I hate it that they have to stay home. My son will be all alone.
