'The Thankful Poor'

Mark Jacob @MarkJacob16 3m
“The Thankful Poor,” Henry Ossawa Tanner, 1894.
Tanner was born in Pittsburgh in 1859. His father was an AME bishop; his mother had escaped from slavery. A student of painter Thomas Eakins, Tanner grew so sick of American racism that he moved to Paris in 1891.
