At 2:15 AM my father passed away. I never got to see him in person. We could not provide him comfort in his final hours. My hope is that he knew in his heart we were with him.
It did not have to be this way.

(146,281 posts)So many people, including myself, are unable to see their parents due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe they know that we are thinking of them in their situation. The necessity of this isolation is one of the true tragedies of this epidemic disease. Stronger measure should have been put in place much earlier to reduce its spread.
I mourn with you. My mother is also in her last days, not from COVID, and I cannot travel to say goodbye to her, nor to support my father, because that would risk bringing this disease back to my own family.

(36,220 posts)Losing a person in these times is soul crushing.
You might remember I lost my mom in April.
It was awful beyond the personal loss. But I want you to know and maybe take it from someone who does, time will be of help. I still have some pretty dark days and my mind is sometimes fucked, but it is slowly getting better and the bad days are fewer. Allow yourself to feel and grieve.
My heart is with you.
Love, bb.

(9,895 posts)My mother passed on the 10th and I have spent the last 3 weeks trying to get closure and stave off the hate and anger that boils inside of me because this DID NOT HAVE TO HAPPEN THIS WAY...
I feel your anguish and pain and can only say that while yours is unique, you are not alone. I wish I could say that it gets better with time, but all I can say is that it gets less acute and feels less like an anvil on your chest each week. What we have had stolen from us - closure, goodbyes in person and the human contact so essential in grief - can NEVER be replaced, but please know you are in my thoughts today and I hope you find peace and receive the same support I have to keep me sane these last few weeks...

(205,016 posts)I've been there and this is about as tough as it gets, even worse - if possible - at this time of year, not to mention the additional stress of the pandemic. My Dad has also been on my mind especially right now since November 30th is the anniversary.
Just take care of yourself, be good to yourself, and know that your friends on DU are here for you and are sending you strength and hope.
