So Black Friday was a bust then?

Reports are trickling in that the brick and mortars saw small crowds today. This is no surprise really.

Wall Street seems unfazed by this with the Dow up slightly. So that's a bit surprising, the disconnect there continues.

There could be a blowout Cyber Monday, or perhaps people will preserve their cash right now.

I hope the small shops get a big bump. I know I’m going to at least one local shop.

2. Not sure. CBS News said 30-40% of shoppers are buying online.

So I'm not sure if lower turnout at the stores means lower sales.

online shopping. I saw on the news tonight that some of the online companies are having logistics problems. I won't be buying anything except a couple of little gifts for my parents; we only exchange small, inexpensive things on Christmas. But if I were going to buy a bunch of gifts that needed to be on time, I don't think I would depend on the shippers. You can still shop at regular stores as long as you do it safely.

They need to kill Black Friday like the blood sucking vampire it is. Worst day of work for millions of workers in retail. It's a very ugly day that brings out the worst in people. It is the Trump of shopping days. Good riddance.

Obviously this year is a complete mess. I think it’s a day when the working class shops since there are such sales. Yes you have three idiots a year who cause a fight over a tv. But it mostly helps the less affluent.

My guys got no benefit beyond normal pay. Most of the deals were on electronics that were sold at or below cost, so no attachments meant no profit. The last two years of it I had to take money out of my own pocket for meals because they pretty much would not let us use petty cash. I am thinking about the workers, not the customers who somehow believe the $300 computer they bought is anything more than a three hundred dollar computer.

It is just another day for the box stores to starve small businesses , that can't afford to sell low, of customers.

When I worked retail, I came to dread Christmas season because of the behavior I saw in people.

But I was in the Grocery business as a store receiving clerk. Black Friday for me was wonderful as it meant I had the season and year kicked. The worst weekend in the year for me was Labor Day as we had all the current holiday stuff in and the halloween in the back room. From Labor Day to Thanksgiving was the worst as it was cardboard shipper displays that needed to be assembled, halloween, baking, wine for displays, liquor sets for displays, liquor, Thanksgiving items (both GM & Grocery), Christmas seasonal (both GM and Grocery) and lots of beer, soda and chips for football season There were days one could barely squeeze between the pallets. Once we hit Thanksgiving, I could come up for air as most stuff was out on the floor or soon would be.

It was and is a rough time for the employees at Retail, but I really don't know anytime that isn't anymore.
