I was just looking at Little Lord PissyPants' Twitter feed and some anarchist who TRULY hates America (didn't check their profile pic to see it was the ANTIFA logo) posted THIS. WHY would you want to upset the best president since Abraham Lincoln? So if you use Twitter and do see Trump's tweets, PLEASE DO NOT post this in a reply to him.
Also, if you have freedom lovin' MAGA friends, don't post it in replies to them, either!

(11,141 posts)At noon the sun is directly over the meridian. It is neither past the meridian or before (ante) the meridian.
The military uses a 24 hour clock to avoid confusion. Using noon and midnight does the same.
Years ago I read about a person who argued this in court over a no parking sign that used, in part, 12pm and the judge agreed!

(8,910 posts)Since we don't use the 24 hr. clock, we use the 12 hour clock and since we don't use 0:00 for midnight, we have to distinguish between the two 12 o'clocks.
Hence 12 a.m. & 12 p.m., which is the standard convention.
You'll never convince me otherwise.
And that judge is an idiot.

(8,910 posts)So they decided to use the word "noon" instead,
does not mean that 12 a.m. or 12 p.m. does not exist.
Weak argument!

(9,663 posts)It would be more accurate to say at apparent solar noon the sun is directly over the meridian. This time could also be described as sundial time. This time is non-uniform because of the earth's elliptical orbit, it's inclination to the ecliptic and minor precessional movements of the earth itself. This apparent sun gains and loses time.
On the other hand, mean solar time is uniform and includes standard time, universal time and local civil time. Standard or Daylight Saving Time is the time most folks use to measure time and the noon measured by it rarely coincides with the sun being directly overhead of the observer's meridian.

Regardless of what your other post says.
Of course there is a twelve PM.

(6,847 posts)and that 12:00 pm is noon, and has been so my entire life, and I am 75. I've seen several attempts to change it (for example, 12:00 m and 12:00 n), all of which have failed. The convention is still the convention.
And if you set a digital clock, you will notice that "pm" shows right up on 12:00 just as you hit noon.
It's analogous to the convention that zero precedes one.
Of course in military time it's 0000 for midnight and 1200 for noon. But not that many people use that system.

(2,212 posts)... most who are of a similar bent will argue you should never write "12 noon" (per your suggestion) because it's redundant and you should instead write just "Noon."
Personally, I think your complaint is off-base. If you're trying to indicate that there's an exact schedule being followed (as with a timetable or an itinerary or a schedule of events, as with an inauguration), the most appropriate designation is 12:00 PM. "Noon" sounds too informal and imprecise. As another in this thread has already noted, it's an established custom that midnight is indicated as 12:00 AM, and noon as 12:00 PM.
