She works at... There is NO room

In Dallas. Not mentioning hospital for obvious reasons.

Things are going downhill quickly. Keep in mind Dallas is a MAJOR medical hub.

Also story in local DFW news about the how Dallas hospitals filling up doesn't allow rural hospitals to transfer anyone.

Of Dallas. But the space is filling up, which means if you get sick now, unlike my experience in September, there may or may not be experimental meds available and you probably won't see a virologist (I owe that Dr. My life) even IF they have a bed.

Stay safe, it's going to be rough out there.

due to having contracted viral meningitis a decade before a vaccine was available.

I can tell you quite frankly that there's not any more psychologically devastating thing which can happen to a person. It tinges my world view and self-image to this day.

One of the things that haunts me about my experience was the visible terror in the faces of the ER staff when the test came back and they realized what they were looking at in me. They were completely unequipped for the situation.

Like clockwork they stabilized my oxygen. Got me the right meds, x-rays and then kicked me upstairs.

They did a good job as well.

I hate that they are overwhelmed.

was moved to short term nursing care facility on Thursday in a town two hours away. He had improved enough that they decided someone else needed the hospital bed, and apparently nothing closer was available.

Those will already be full. People are about to get a hard dose of reality very quickly.

The rural ones will be the worst.

"Gov. Greg Abbott’s mask order took effect July 3. Children under 10 are excepted. Counties with 20 or fewer active COVID-19 cases can apply to the state for exemption. As of late November, 28 of the state’s 254 counties had exemptions due to low case counts."

About 4 weeks ago some guy came to Commissioner's Court to ask the judge to apply for the exemption so they could stop wearing the stupid masks. The judge declined. I'm gonna give him props for that, because the county went overwhelmingly for Trump. Two weeks later, two county offices had to close because of several employees testing positive. The last issue of the weekly newspaper said they had 36 more cases in 3 days.

The rural hospitals always have the city as backup.

As non-Republican as Dallas is, we have a regime in Austin that is about as good for Texas as Pol Pot was for Cambodia.
