If I had a Hammer.

Every sound of the hammer is one more nail in trumps coffin as Biden's Inaugural podium is being built in front on his eyes.

It's the hammer of Justice,
It's the bell of Freedom,
It's the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

“If I Had a Hammer” was written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays in 1949 as an anthem for many progressive concerns of the day and most specifically the Labor Movement. The song features images of blue-collar workers (hammers and bells to suggest factories, etc.) as a rallying call for justice and equality.
Composer: Pete Seeger, Lee Hays
Form: Anthem

The words tell a story again today:

If I had a hammer,
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening,
All over this land

I'd hammer out danger,
I'd hammer out a warning,
I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

If I had a bell,
I'd ring it in the morning,
I'd ring it in the evening,
All over this land

I'd ring out danger,
I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring out love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

If I had a song,
I'd sing it in the morning,
I'd sing it in the evening,
All over this land

I'd sing out danger,
I'd sing out a warning
I'd sing out love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

Well I got a hammer,
And I got a bell,
And I got a song to sing, all over this land.

It's the hammer of Justice,
It's the bell of Freedom,
It's the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

It's the hammer of Justice,
It's the bell of Freedom,
It's the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters,
All over this land.

Outside Trump's bedroom window is the sound of building: hammers, drills, trucks.Construction of the parade platform for Biden's inauguration festivities is well underway. The viewing stand and bleachers are almost complete — and all within Trump's view.

Hear the tolling of the bells—
Iron bells!
What a world of solemn thought their monody compels!
In the silence of the night,
How we shiver with affright
At the melancholy menace of their tone!
For every sound that floats
From the rust within their throats
Is a groan.
And the people—ah, the people—
They that dwell up in the steeple,
All alone,
And who tolling, tolling, tolling,
In that muffled monotone,
Feel a glory in so rolling
On the human heart a stone—
They are neither man nor woman—
They are neither brute nor human—
They are Ghouls:
And their king it is who tolls;
And he rolls, rolls, rolls,
Rolls
A pæan from the bells!
And his merry bosom swells
With the pæan of the bells!
And he dances, and he yells;
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the pæan of the bells—
Of the bells:
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the throbbing of the bells—
Of the bells, bells, bells—
To the sobbing of the bells;
Keeping time, time, time,
As he knells, knells, knells,
In a happy Runic rhyme,
To the rolling of the bells—
Of the bells, bells, bells—
To the tolling of the bells,
Of the bells, bells, bells, bells—
Bells, bells, bells—
To the moaning and the groaning of the bells.

Can BunkerBoy see and hear the construction of Biden's Inaugural podium all the way from the White House? I've never been to D.C. but from what I could tell on Google maps, it looks like the Capitol Building is out of sight and out of earshot from BunkerBoy. Or are they closer than they seem?

And it's the song that came immediately to mind when they showed Nancy Pelosi, wielding that huge gavel (aka hammer), leading the crowd into the Capitol to get the ACA done.

Way back in the day I was part of a group that performed PP&M songs; in '96, just before our 30th class reunion, we gathered to hear them in person. Through a stroke of cosmic blessing we were able to go backstage afterwards and had a delightful conversation with Peter Yarrow; the photo of that meeting still adorns my living room wall. Mary Travers' passing was the only time I've ever cried over a celebrity's death, probably because she and the guys were so much more than mere entertainers. Anyway, I still love listening to them and sometimes play them on the interwebs while working; but for pure nostalgia, nothing comes close to those old vinyls with all their scritches and scratches. It was a time.

It will be virtual. However the dancing in the streets here and abroad will be breath taking. Look what happened when he was named the winner. It was beautiful to behold. A celebration.

Wait watch what is coming to a street near you.

I didn't cry. I drew in a deep breath with eyes closed for a few moments and then let it all out. I felt clean again.

He will be the one that heals us from deep wounds, to our people, environment and allies. Then, then I see Kamala as the one that will bring us forward. They will be a magnificent tag team playing off each others strengths.

I am still sad and surprisingly angry about the way Pete Seeger was treated - blackballed and deprived of his rightful career because of US military pigheadedness. I think he was a very good songwriter, but more than that he had PASSION and authenticity.

Oddly my favourite Seeger song was written by his daughter, Peggy. It's called "I Wanna Be An Engineer" and if you haven't heard it, you should, and you can probably guess the tenor of the song from the last two lines:

"I'll fight 'em as a woman, not a lady.

I'll fight 'em as an engineer."
