(33,643 posts)I don't blame the young people nearly as much as the idiots who thought it made sense for a band to even be there.

(10,170 posts)Get real sick. Especially the young ones. So while thousands are dying these people will just end up believing the BS. Unless they themselves end up in the hospital or a family member dies from it. They will come out the other end of the pandemic feeling fully justified. And Im not wishing greater misfortune on them. Maybe just wish they would at least get sick as a dog for a couple weeks so they at least realize its real. That might lead to a lot fewer deaths.

(51,550 posts)I used to play in a marching band. I'll never forget the stuff that came out of the brass instruments' spit valves. Wind instruments act like respiratory droplet funnels, as you blast out air from deep within your lungs, filled with moisture that carries virus.
I think they should ban all wind instruments from games during the pandemic. A good drumline is all you really need at a game anyway.

(9,259 posts)Although I dont see them here. For woodwinds (sax, flute, clarinet) its a cloth bag that covers the whole instrument with holes for your hands and the mouthpiece. For brass its easier (because the only place air comes out is the bell), it just covered the bell. Seen pix of these. I play in a community concert band and weve been on hiatus since March, as theres no way we can rehearse safely with 40-50 players in our small rehearsal hall.

(21,304 posts)I noticed that there were a lot of people in Texas, Florida, Alabama stadiums watching the games, many without masks.
On the other hand I saw no one in a 107,000 seat Michigan stadium.
We are in for some bad times ahead. Canceling sports would have been the best route, but $$$$.
Multi-millionaire pro athletes aren't going to abide by rules or guidelines, the NFL is full of Covid now and basketball is starting up, already started up in college.
