In my opinion, the ONLY reason Trump is claiming to run in 2024

Not the least of which is that he can actually win again. The whole thing may have started as a joke but it’s deadly serious now. He also wants to maintain control over the party. It’s his party now, lock, stock and barrel and he can make or break these people with a single tweet. It’s also a good source of income for him, he can leverage this power into even more money. And it’s now about revenge, there’s nothing this guy loves more than vengeance.

He'll never actually run but doesn't stop him from pretending (he's always been a pretend president, why change now?). This allows him to continue fund raising and the way he's structured his fund raising appeals, he actually does get to keep and spend the $ as he sees fit -- doesn't seem legal, but I guess so long as you explain the partial truth in the fine print it satisfies the law.
