Our election system needs to change

This is crazy....I am learning a lot....funny how before this election on election night I would watched as states were called for the candidates...at the end of the night we knew who ‘won’...yes I knew about state certifications and electors, but probably not the nuances like how some states have county canvassers who certify, and then the state canvassers certify....or how state legislators could possibly send their own slate of electors....now I came across this article....essentially the article talks about how the U.S. congress could object to a state’s electoral votes, basically one senator and one representative have to object, and then both houses vote on the objection, if both houses object then the electoral votes from that state don’t count...thank goodness we have the house because if we didn’t I could seriously see Congress throwing out a few states...essentially our system relies on people who are supposedly honest, noble and who will do the right thing, it isn’t built for corrupt and partisan hacks like we have on the other side

2. I wonder how other first world countries handle their elections.

I know we are the only one with something as weird and dysfunctional as the Electoral College, but how quickly are results reported in Canada? Great Britain? Australia?

3. Very quickly in Canada.

Results are known for the most part by midnight or early AM.

House of Commons ridings are much smaller than our districts and much easier to count.

5. Australia - compulsory voting

We accept it's for the good of the country.

Eliminates voter supression; it's in the governments interest to make voting as simple and accessible as possible.

Preferential voting. I believe you call it 'Ranked Choice'. Simply means that the wildy popular are rarely elected, instead we end up with the least hated.

4. Yes. It's a bizarrely unworkable system

Created specifically to STOP THE ENGLISH.

Sure, it had plenty of relevancy in it's day and age, when you'd just come out of a war of independence, but in the 21st Century it an archaic, unfair system.
