Firehose of falsehood

By Brian Stelter, CNN Business
Updated 12:31 AM ET, Mon November 30, 2020

... There's nothing new to say about the man. But there is still lots to learn about his enablers ...

... Trump is running a "classic Russian-style disinfo campaign," known as the "firehose of falsehood," which is when you "push out as many different stories and conspiracy theories and lies and half-truths as you possibly can," Rauch said. "The goal here is to confuse people, and he's doing very well at that. This is a classic propaganda tactic" ...

Trumpism is a big part of Fox's business model ...

It wasn't "Trumpism" when Gingrich was doing it, and was made Speaker of the House for doing it.

It wasn't "Trumpism" when Rush Limbaugh made a career out of it, invited others to do likewise, and turned daily hours of demagoguery into broadcasting normalcy.

It wasn't "Trumpism" when Bush shuffled "9/11" and "Saddam" together as often as he could without directly connecting them in order to create the impression that they were.

It wasn't "Trumpism" that causes FOX to put a "D" in front of the name of every Republican elected official who gets indicted or convicted.

It wasn't "Trumpism" to pretend "czars" wasn't just a media-made shorthand term for the long, dull titles of people charged with being the point man for special projects or focused efforts, nor to pretend it hadn't been in use for decades.

The list goes on.

Calling it "Trumpism" lets the support system off the hook. This actual "Republicanism" turned the Republican Party into the Party of Ahab, and Ahab isn't Trump. Ahab is the base.
