Pope Ratz: Gay marriage threatens 'the future of humanity'

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict said Monday that gay marriage was one of several threats to the traditional family that undermined "the future of humanity itself."

The pope made some of his strongest comments against gay marriage in a new year address to the diplomatic corps accredited to the Vatican in which he touched on some economic and social issues facing the world today.

He told diplomats from nearly 180 countries that the education of children needed proper "settings" and that "pride of place goes to the family, based on the marriage of a man and a woman."

"This is not a simple social convention, but rather the fundamental cell of every society. Consequently, policies which undermine the family threaten human dignity and the future of humanity itself," he said. ...............(more)

It's not like humanity is exactly treating its home properly!

But seriously, a couple of gay friends of mine talk about the "homosexual explosion" as nature's way of limiting human population as a defense against the damage we are causing to "Gaia." I think that's a fascinating notion. And if there is anything to that, then Pope Benny may actually be right! And again... that may not be such a bad thing...

Sort of sick of that whole organization. The reputation is not good, and yet they slander others as if they were pure and without sin. Which is of course, the opposite of what 'He died for us!' told them to do. The opposite.

so damned concerned about "human dignity", now is he.

To hell with him.

I had heterosexual parents. My mother cheated on my father. My father beat my mother. They fought like cats and dogs and they scared the holy living shit out of me and my two sisters.

I never knew if I'd come home from school each day and find one, or both, dead in the house.

"Human dignity".

Yeah...right.

I'd have traded my "dignified" hetero household for a gay one any day as long as my gay parents didn't beat us or each other.

Seriously, I'm out of forgiveness when it comes to that bunch of hatemongers. Burn in Hell, Ratzinger.

(Yeah, I know, a "real" Christian would not use such words. Call me a sinner.)

Or are we supposed to believe that if children are raised to believe there's no such thing as gay people, that will "protect" them from becoming gay? And has anyone told this asshat that some gay couples have kids, too?

Telling a poor family in central America not to use birth control because
it makes the baby Jesus sad that they are not producing an 8th or 9th
child is a real threat to humanity.

Hamlet Act 3, scene 2, 222–230

Whatever.

Cute outfit, interesting accessories...maybe a bit over the top.

Doesn't it seem hypocritical, and isn't it puzzling, how the leader of the organization that once brought us the Inquisition, the Crusades, and all the other very unsavory things they did throughout their history can so confidently assert that same sex marriage threatens human dignity and the future of mankind itself? Go figure.

But then again, I think I get it.

Everyone makes mistakes. But to continue to make the same mistakes, in this case by once again so arrogantly assuming knowledge of absolute truth and unquestionable correctness of action leading to doing great harm to large numbers of innocent people once again, is inexcusable.

More innocent blood will be spilled, more lives will be destroyed, more children will suffer, as these unfounded, unwarranted, illogical, and unreasonable beliefs about lgbt persons are perpetuated by ultra-conservative RW religious fanatics claiming absolute knowledge of the will of the Creator, and then actively harming others on the basis of this untruth, an untruth that they claim as their divine knowledge and hegemonic right.

I imagine it's still just a question of genuine core values.

People can believe what they want to believe. That's fine. When people start taking away other's rights and causing unwarranted harm to others because of their beliefs, that is not fine. This is why separation of church and state is so absolutely critical to human freedom and liberty.
