I was just on Washington Journal - Thom Hartmann......

My question is one I've had for years: "Why haven't progressives bought a multitude of radio stations?"

His answer made sense. He said in the beginning of the buy of the stations, it's not going to be profitable and it takes time. He also said (I'm paraphrasing) that progressive donors haven't really taken the radio arena all that seriously. I heard (I don't know if he actually did) that Bloomberg was going to donate $100 Million to the Dems. in the 2020 election. I wish these folks would watch the documentary, The Brainwashing of My Dad. Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. are some key elements that got us here!

I believe Thom Hartmann said he has written an Op-Ed for The Nation Magazine (a couple of weeks ago) regarding this issue. I haven't read it yet but will ASAP.

but as one who supported it fully, despite the ups and downs, I understand. Sadly.

5. I listened to Air America day and night. But it just wasn't sustainable with the number of listeners

If there had been listeners, it would have continued. I think there are liberal channels on satellite radio, but few pay for that either.

9. Not enough listeners means not enough ad revenue. I guarantee that most companies don't

care about the politics of those who buy their products. Give em millions of listeners and they'll buy ads.

On Mr Hartmann’s Sirus show. He was raising the awareness of how the right is dominating the airwaves and we are so overwhelmed with these radio stations spewing conspiracies and hate. He has a lot of issues on his show I never heard about and some are jaw dropping...I get his newsletter to go back and dig deeper. He’s very educational and his guests are, too.

It saved my sanity during my several years lived in a rural area. I could get a clear signal in the south-eastern sky. In the city, it was harder - too many trees and buildings.

Advertisers are almost universally right wing. They tend to buy ads on shows they agree with. The relative popularity of the show is less important.

He was always a bit inclined that way and pretty racist.
But my mom kept him in line to a good degree. After
she died, he married a racist biblethumper and went
downhill from there. It was hard to watch.
